Academic Feedback Template: Critique + High Expectations + Assurance
Example: Joe, you read 33 words per minute on that passage. My expectation is that
you'll be reading 70 words per minute soon and here’s how I'm going to help you.
Your brain is like a muscle, it needs to be worked out. Try individually reading an
extra ten minutes a day and watch how those words per minute go up each week.
Example: Student is struggling with completing her work, You could say, Adrianna,
this is hard, We don't have an idea yet. Let's figure out what we can do together.
How about if we try...
Example: Students frustrated at lunch and tries to yell and hit another child.
Pulling the child aside you would say in a calm voice: Some people hit and yell when
they're mad. At our school, we work hard to use our words and calming strategies.
Let's try one together. Let's try blowing out the candles on our fingers.
Example: A student is struggling with keeping his body in control during lunch, Pull
the child aside and say: This is your community. Your place. Everyday when you
come to school and to lunch we will be here to support you. I can help show you
how to keep your body in control during lunch. ‘Try squeezing your hands together
to make juice 5x when you feel yourself needing to move. You carvalso raise your
hand and tell me and I can help you by taking you on a walk to get those wiggles out,
