Self-evaluation Email/Communication Assignment

Part B
1. The Keirsey Test determined that my temperament class is Guardian and that my
personality is equal parts Caregiver/Provider (ESFJ) and Nurturer/Protector (ISFJ).
The personalities are categorically similar in that they each contain an S, F, and J which
represents Sensing, Feeling and Judgement, however, the difference lies in the E-
representing Extrovert and the I-representing Introvert.
2. I was surprised to find the results of the Keirsey test to be fairly accurate. While my
scores indicated that I am both a Caregiver and a Nurturer, I feel my personality traits
best mirror that of a Caregiver. Interestingly, the differentiating factor between the two
personalities is Introvert versus Extrovert, and honestly, depending on my mood I can
be either. For this reason, I wasnt surprised at all to see that my scores for the introvert
and extrovert column were tied. After reading both descriptions I think I am a Caregiver
who can be occasionally introverted, rather than a Nurturer who can be occasionally
extroverted.
I think knowing your temperament style is extremely valuable, especially when
working with the public. In my case, because I can often wear my emotions on my sleeve
being aware of my triggers and sensitivities, is key for maintaining professionalism and
remaining happy and productive in the workplace. For example, I am an animal lover,
someone who is highly sensitive to stories and events involving animal suffering or loss.
Having said that, I would be sure redirect conversation or directly request a subject
change should a client begin to speak about hunting or trapping. In doing this I would
be able to maintain professionalism and keep my mind on my job, rather than getting
upset and disrupting my work productivity.
3. After review of the syllabus, I am looking most forward to learning about issues
surrounding Sensitive Practice. The statistics presented in class about the
overwhelmingly high numbers of (sexual) abuse survivors among us were both shocking
and disturbing. From this, I now understand that the chances of a client at some point
in my career having an emotional response to touch are very high, and so I need to be
better prepared to handle the situation when it comes.
4. An area that I believe may be a challenge is the Reflection part, especially if it is self-
reflection. I say this because I find it much more difficult to write about how I am feeling
as opposed to speaking about how I am feeling. Perhaps by the end of the semester, I
will have had more experience with this and so it will become a less daunting task.
See below for temperament definintions
For reference:

their own. They are warm-hearted and popular with a strong sense of duty and responsibility.

and security.

Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, Judgment. The nurturer is highly dependable, puts the needs of
others ahead of their own, and value security and traditions. They are typically quiet,
conscientious, and kind. They are perceptive when it comes to the feelings of others and are
interested in serving others.
