Task title: Final assessment- case analysis
Research title: Assessment strategies for teaching math

Introduction:

Assessment is the process of collecting evidence about level students in

learning and it used by the teacher and students. The teacher has used the
assessment to develop the learning and support the students to achieve
successful ( Teacher Guide to Assessment. 2012).

Actually, they are three types of assessment which are, diagnostic,

formative, and summative. First assessment is diagnostic assessment which
is an assessment that help the teacher to know the levels for students and
their knowledge about something. In addition, from it teacher can discover
the skills and the abilities of the students before the teaching take a place.
They are four types of Diagnosed assessment such are; pre-test, discussion,
self-assessment and interview.

However, the second assessment is formative assessment and it is an

assessment that give the feedback for students and information about the
process that students can achieve it. They are many types of formative
assessment such as, observations during in-class activities, homework
exercises, reflection journals, question and answer, activities and student
feedback.

Finally, summative assessment is an assessment that is give feedback and

informations about teaching after the learning is complete. Examples of the
types of summative assessment is examinations, final examination, term
papers, projects, portfolios, performances, student evaluation of the course
and instructor self-evaluation (Formative and Summative Assessment. n.d).

In the fact, I will cover two types of assessment that the teacher uses it in
the math subject with grade two which is diagnosed assessment and
formative assessment. Also, I will explain and evaluate each assessment
after that I will suggest some important point to develop the strategies.

Parents and how to let them know about their level .

Diagnosed assessment (Pre-test)

Explain the assessment strategies and what should achieve:

Actually, teacher is give students pre-test about the last lesson which is
(subtract three digit number lesson) in the begging of the class before she
start the new lesson. The test is include some questions about subtract three
digit numbers. Students will solve the question in individual. After the
students finish the test teacher will let them to exchange their test with their
partner to check for their answers. After that teacher will try to explain the
problem that most students are facing it in the test. In the fact, the teacher
gave them the test to make sure that students understand everything about
the last lesson. In addition, students will review their knowledge and
information about the last lesson because if they forget the last lesson they
will face problem with the new lesson because each lesson in the unit is
connect with the other.

Evaluation of each strategy and reaction of students towards the

strategies :

I think this is the best way to review the last lesson in the begging of the
class because the teacher will measure the issues and misconceptions that
students face it for last lesson and she will try to help them to understand it.
Also from it the skills and the performances for students will improve
because take students test will support the students to studying in their
home before they come to school. Moreover, students will compete with
others to get a high grade in the test and this will develop their levels in the
math subject. In the other hand, I notice students was doing the test but
most of them have a same mistake. For example, the student making
mistakes when they brow on the tens or hundreds. So the teacher will focus
with this point and she will try to find a simple way that from it they will not
make mistakes again.

Suggestions and recommendations:

I suggest that the teacher should read and explain to the students the
questions of the test before the students starting the test because they are
in grade two and I think this is difficult to them. In addition, I suggest that the
teacher should give to the students three different kinds of the test because
they are three different levels in the class, such as, high level students,
medium level students and low level students.
Formative assessment (activities and students feedback).

Explanation, what should achieve:

In the count a coins lesson teacher gave students in the group an activity
which is about bag of coins. Inside the bag they are small plastic bag of
coins. Each student in group will take the plastic bag of coins and one paper.
Each student will order the coins from the biggest to smallest first then they
will count the coins in the papers. Actually, students will work in individual
and after that teacher will check for their answers to discover the most
mistakes that students make it and she will identify the strengths and
weaknesses of each students in this activity. The teacher will try to clarify
the issues that students face it during the activity. From this activity teacher
will attract the students to solve the question also she can notice the process
that students achieve it in this lesson.

Evaluation of each strategy and reaction of students towards the

strategies :

I think this is a perfect idea to give student activity during the class,
especially with primary students because from the activity, students can be
excited to count the coins so it will be easy for the teacher to notice the
understanding for each student. Actually, students can exchange the
knowledge of the questions with their members of the groups because the
teacher allows them. So this will help them to collaborate and develop their
abilities. I think this activity is suitable for their age because they can touch
and see the coins so this will help them to count the coins easily without any
difficulty. In the other hand, I notice that most of students was doing the
activity because they are helping and support other if anyone have a
problem.

Suggestions and recommendations:

Finally, I recommend some important points to improve the strategies. I

suggest teacher may say to the students a positive words during they work
with the activity because it will support them to be focused with the activity
and it will help them to achieve it. Moreover, I recommend that the teacher
should give the students more time to work with the activity because they
are different levels and abilities of students in the class. For example, low
level students need more time than high level students to do the activity.
