Creating Blended Assignment Instructions-Week 3

Below is a sample of one of the assignments that is required in my online


class and will be part of the blended course with adjustments.

I examined the first assignment that I give my students and compared the
instructions to the eight elements to include in written assignment
instructions as recommended by OReilly and Kelly (2008), and I found that I
include 7 of the elements in that first assignment. The one that was not
included was the mechanical details, which I rarely include with the weekly
assignments, but include in the course project.

Process:

1. From a student perspective, details regarding how to submit the


assignments, specifically the number of pages needed or the format.

2. I will use all the current assignments in the blended course.

3. Updated Assignment Instructions:

a. Assignment #1: Chapter One-Introduction to Career Planning:


Testing Your Career Savvy

Review the General Learning Objectives for Students in Career Planning


notes. This week the assignment will address the learning objective on
Self-Study where you will demonstrate knowledge of who you are
including your likes and dislikes.

Review the power point on Career Development Theories

Read the Career Development Theories summary fact sheet

Examine the career exploration notes which describe the career planning
process that you will undertake during the next 15 weeks.

Read chapter one in the textbook-Testing Your Career Savvy

Complete Exercise 1.1 First Impressions, 1.2 Identify Your


Interests, 1.3 Describe Yourself, and 1.4 Consider
Occupational Status. Answer the questions typing your
answers into a Microsoft Word document which you will
save on your computer and then upload the document in
the Attach File link in the Assignment Submission box. You
can also type your answers into the Text Submission link.
Avoid typing your answers in the Comment Section. Once
you have completed the assignment, make sure you
document your answers in your personal Career Fitness
Profile at the end of the book. You will update your profile
each week.

The Discussion Folder in the assignment provides you with a link to the
Discussion Board where you will post your answer to the question
Which career theory do you like the most & why? Review the grading
rubric before you post your comments. Note that to receive 5 points for
participation in the class discussion you must reply to at least two
classmates.

There will be a group/class online chat on Sunday___ at 8:00 pm. You


will find the link to the chat in the course menu under Chat/Collaborate.
Test your internet connection for the Collaborate site before the meeting
time. Follow the directions in Collaborate to enter the site. Be prepared to
use headphones and a mic to participate in the site. If you do not have
these items you can use the chat box to participate in the discussion.

4. I will distribute the assignment online. The format will be html,


as per the Blackboard system.
