Course Description:
Throughout this course students will learn and demonstrate comprehension of drawing
skills and principles. Through experimentation of art mediums and various project exercises,
students will apply their understanding of elements and principles of design. Participation and
hard work are expectations of this class and will be the key to being successful in your work.

Objectives:
1. The foundation of this course information is based on art principles and elements of
design. Students will learn these fundamentals through realistic observation and
creative modalities.
2. Students will create a variety of art work that will strengthen their ability to draw,
critically think, and identify as artists.
3. Students will learn to critically engage in dialogue about art work and the art making
process.

2. Be mindful and present in class
3. Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings
4. Clean up is a part of the art making process
Other rules will be created as a class community.
Grading:

Students will be graded on the following:


70%- Art Projects
20%-Homework Assignments/In Class Exercises
a. Sketchbook work
b. Warm up activities
c. Materials
10%-Participation
A= 90-100% B=80-89% C=70-79%
D=60-69% D-=50-59% F=0-49%
Homework and Late/Missing Work Policy:

This course will require students to do some work at home, for example, research and
sketchbook activities but for the most part all work is to be expected to be completed in class,
any work unfinished will be required to finish on their own time.

Assignments will be turned in on the class Canvas page.

Late work: I will accept art work up until the week before the quarter is over, no questions asked.
I will not accept work past this week. If you are tardy/absent it is your responsibility to find out
what you missed. Excused or unexcused, if you are absent you still need to make up the work.

Reworks: If you didnt get a grade that you desired, you are more than welcome to have a
conversation with me about what you can do to push your work and add some points to the
project grade. Reworks will also be accepted up until the week before the quarter is over.

Attendance/Citizenship

If you are tardy/absent it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. I WILL POST
EVERYTHING WE DO TO CANVAS DAILY. Please visit the canvas page before coming to me
with questions about what you missed. Excused or unexcused, if you are absent, you still need to
make up the work. ***If you walk in late and I have already called role, it is also your
responsibility to check in with me so I dont mark you absent. ***

Citizenship grades are determined by Taylorsville High School policy and approved of by the
Granite School District Board of Education. Your CPA represents behavior and attendance. The
following are behaviors that determine your CPA:

1. Behavior: a series of uncorrected negative behaviors or one serious incident will


result in a 0 citizenship grade.
2. 0-3 excused absences: teacher will determine citizenship grades of 0-4
3. 4th excused absence: student will need a doctors note or authorization from the
administration, failure to do so will result in a 0.
4. 1st unexcused absence: student will receive no higher than a 1.
5. 2nd unexcused absence: student will receive no high than a 0.
6. Tardiness: After 3 late arrivals, the student will receive no higher than a 1.
7. Entrance into class 20 minutes late is an unexcused absence. **Please check into the
attendance office before coming to class if you have a note.
8. Leaving class early is an unexcused absence.
9. Tardies/Absences can be made up after school. Please come to citizenship make up in
B104 at 2:15-3:15 Monday-Thursday.
10. Your attendance in class in mandatory. It is important that you are in class and
participating to be successful in this class.

Plagarism/Cheating:

It is important that you only ever claim what is YOUR work, not someone elses.
Plagiarism and cheating are serious offenses and will not be tolerated. These offenses will result
in a 0 on the project and affect your citizenship grade negatively.

Food, Drink and Electronic Devices:

Food and Drink are allowed but it is important to keep in mind that week need to keep
out art making spaces clear so please dont eat near artwork.

Electronic Devices are permitted for listening to music while working on an art project.
They are NOT allowed when we are having a classroom discussion or while Im giving
instructions or demonstrations. If I see it out during these times I will give your ONE verbal
warning. If use is continued, I will take it away and send it to the office.
