Torre Shepkers Career Goals

School Counseling Licensure

I am driven to provide what is in the best interests of my family and the ability and skills to improve the
well-being of others. I found a passion to work in a clinical setting that is both advantageous to raising a
family and has the exposure to impact the lives of many children. My first career goal is to earn licensure
through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for School Counseling. I have registered to
take the PRAXIS examination in April, which is the first step in securing the ability to earn licensure.
Secondly, I will submit transcripts and references to the board in May of this year following the
completion of my degree.

NCC & LPCA Licensure

In addition to earning School Counseling Licensure, I would also like to earn my credentials as a
Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA). This
summer after graduation and completing requirements for my School Counseling License, I will take the
National Counselor Examination (NCE). After satisfactory results on the NCE, I will submit the necessary
transcripts and documents the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) in order to earn national
credentialing. Next, I will then submit my results, transcripts, references and other documentation as
dictated by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors (NCBLPC) to earn a LPCA from
the state of North Carolina.

Military Family
I am the proud spouse of an Active Duty Army Soldier, and am required to be flexible and adaptable to a
multitude of variables. Thus, it is never clear as to where my family and I will be living. Thus, it is my goal
to first obtain North Carolina Licensure. Then I will utilize reciprocity agreements and military benefits to
earn licensure in other state(s) as appropriate.

Specialties
School-Based Registered Play Therapist (SB-RPT): Play Therapy is my passion, and it is my dream
following the two year minimum prerequisite to obtain my credentialing as a Registered Play Therapist.
Play Therapy is devised based on the premise that all children have the commonality and common
language of Play. I believe that the more play is incorporated into the counseling relationship, the more
investment and rapport client and counselor share. I want the ability to work with diverse populations,
and all children can play which will enable me to work in diversity.

Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT): I love children and animals, and another dream I have is to pursue a
career where these two loves meet. I am interested in earning my credentials as an Animal Assisted
Therapist, with a focus on Canines. My long term goal with this specialty is to incorporate AAT in the
school and clinical setting. I believe incorporating animals into therapy can teach individuals about
empathy, responsibility, accountability, social skills, self-care skills, and many others.
