This site taught us some real easy stretching and rehab exercises that are possible to
do at home. Some exercises are to try pilates which is a calm relaxing exercise that
requires a lot of balance and stretches out your muscles. There is also using a
resistance band to help strengthen the muscles by putting pressure on the band. THen
there is the medicine ball which can be used to do squats, wall ball, and for simple
stretches and core workouts. This site also said that you should do these workouts to
help your resistance against injuries and such. Everyday you should stretch do a
strength exercise and core workout to help yourself against many possibilities. Finally
the site showed us some shoulder based workouts to help primarily shoulder injuries
which is where we are looking to create our ice pack design.

This site which was created by four doctors told us some of the major and most
common shoulder injuries in sports. It also showed us some other common injuries
which could become areas of interest for our design. Some of the injuries of the
shoulder can range from a minor muscle ache to a dislocation. These injuries are all
pretty common because every time we move our arm our shoulder moves. It is also
very vulnerable do to it being a joint and how it can start to become easier to injure as
people age. The site also told use that massaging the muscle and avoiding pressure
and physical contact could prevent an injury and give the shoulder enough time to heal
after a mass amount of work and/or strain.

This site gave us a long list of injuries that occur around the shoulder region. These
include rotator cuff tears and clavicle breaks. These injuries are very serious in the fact
that they are common and can be easily prevented due to this site. The site has an
exercise guide with similar information to the other two sites. The exercise guide
includes constant stretching and use of medicine balls and resistance bands. This site
also had lists of diseases and special conditions one can obtain in his or her shoulder.
This includes Tendinitis, Arthritis, and Bursitis. These diseases and conditions can
cause serious damage and pain.

This site talked about a condition called frozen shoulder. Frozen shoulder is when a
shoulder becomes stiff and painful and grows worse with rest and relaxation. Frozen
shoulder is very common and can happen any place at anytime unexpectedly. Frozen
shoulder is commonly misconceived with a shoulder sprain and then can lead to serious
pain. Some of the ways to combat Frozen shoulder is to do various stretches to get to
the point where the stiffness has somewhat subsided and moving the shoulder
becomes easier. If a person has had prior shoulder injuries before the stiff shoulder
then a physical therapist or an exercise therapist could benefit. This is because Frozen
Shoulder is more common in people who have or have had arthritis and tendinitis.

This site talked about the structure of the shoulder. It talked about the areas that could
become tender due to overuse like the joint, and very fragile bones such as the clavicle.
The site also stated that the shoulder was a true ball-and-socket joint. This means the
shoulder is easily injured because the ball of the upper arm is larger than the shoulder
socket that holds it. To remain stable, the shoulder must be anchored by its muscles,
tendons, and ligaments. This puts a lot of strain on both the bone and the muscles and
tendons. This is why arthritis and tendinitis are so important to care for. There is also
the age factor that takes place. Age deterioration can lead to weakness of bones and
tendons, which can result in more frequent and or more painful injuries.

This site talked about the treatment both hot and cold do and compares the two. OUr
product uses the cold temperature to help injuries. The cold helps constrict blood
vessels in the body leading to a slower flow of blood vessels which can result in cooling
of the skin and prevention of swelling and pain. The ice packs should only be used for
30 minutes on average. This is because extended use can lead to a counterproductive
process where the blood vessels adapt and restart their regular flow to cause swelling
and pain once again. Finally the ice packs used today are small and only provide
cooling to one small region of our body. Whereas we are looking to make a product that
works well on the entire shoulder spanning to right before the elbow and to the same
side clavicle.

This site talked about shoulder instability and how to help keep your shoulder healthy.
The shoulder only attaches to your skeleton via bone in one place: the clavicle. All the
other connections via your upper arm and scapulae are floating in a sea of muscles,
tendons, and ligaments. Many of the things we do in life and the gym contribute to
shoulder instability. This instability is the pathway to injuries in your shoulder and is a
flaw in the anatomy that has caused many people pain. All one can do to prevent
injuries is to work in moderation and to exercise more. This is because if there is a lack
of exercise the muscles in you shoulder become weak and so does your shoulder at
that point.
