3 Goals (1 per outcome): to increase awareness, to increase endurance for swimming, to


increase problem solving ability

Goal 1: To increase awareness

Objective 1: Student will keep appropriate distance from other Crossroads students with
no more than three verbal prompts from TR student during the session

Objective 2: Student will apologize for invading another Crossroads students personal
space with no more than three verbal prompts from TR student during the session

Goal 2: To increase endurance for swimming

Objective 1: Student will swim the length of the pool without stopping at least once
during the session

Objective 2: Student will participate in a ten minute aquatic activity without taking a
break at least once during the session

Goal 3: To increase problem solving ability

Objective 1: Student will provide at least three solutions to a problem brought up by the
TR student during the session

Objective 2: Student will independently implement one of the three solutions to the
problem before the end of the session

Sharks and Minnows Masyn

Time factors/duration (Min and Max): 10-15 minutes

Equipment/Materials/Supplies/Tools:

1. n/a

Facilities Required/Environment: in the pool

Clothing Required: swimming apparel

Purpose/Objective of activity: be the last minnow left

Directions:

1. Assign sharks and minnows at a 1:5 ratio

2. Sharks start at one end and minnows start at the other

3. Once the round starts, minnows swim and try to avoid being tagged by a shark
while sharks swim around trying to tag minnows

4. If a minnow gets tagged, they become a shark in the next round

5. The ultimate goal is for the sharks to tag all the minnows until one minnow is left-
the last minnow left is the winner

Safety Concerns/Precautions: make sure participants are staying aware of each other
so no one gets injured

Leadership Hints/Special Considerations: encourage participants to still respect


each others boundaries
