1.0 INTRODUCTION
The course provides an introduction to engineering study giving students experience in
planning a project, literature searching, experimental work, oral presentation and report writing.
Students choose a project from a list reflecting the research interests of the academic staff in
the Department which he/she will work until the end of the Semester. The planning and
execution of the project are the student's responsibility with the supervisor kept fully informed.
At the end of the semester, student will submit a complete thesis including introduction,
literature review, research methodology, results and discussion and etc. Besides that, students
need to present their research outcome.
2.0 WORKLOAD
Students should expect to spend at least 2 hours per week throughout the academic year
working on their project for both research/final year project I and II.
3.0 MATERIALS
There is no formal textbook but students have access to the University Library that contains a
wide variety of literature searching tools, engineering journals and other resources. The
Department's laboratories are made available to students for the execution of experiment.
4.0 STUDENTS
The responsibilities of the student are as follows:
a) Choose/suggest a topic for the project.
b) Acknowledge all contributors of the project.

supervisor for this purpose. The percentage of plagiarism accepted is below 30%.
e) Each student must meet his/her supervisor regularly.
f) Keep record on progress work and meeting with supervisor in a monitoring
record and ensure the supervisor to endorse.
g) Submit Research framework form (RFF), progress report, draft report and
final report to supervisor according to deadlines given by the coordinator.
h) Observe all deadlines and presentation schedules as notified by the project
coordinator.
i) Corrections of progress report, draft report and final report must be done
according to feedback or comments reported.
j) Submit soft bind (RP/FY I) and hard bind (RP/FY II) report to the coordinator.
