Assessment Lab 1: Questions

Question 1:

1. Search for the root drive


2. Navigate to WindowsSystem32 on the root drive (In this case, we use an alternate folder)
a) If folder is hidden (protected), show and allow read write permissions (unprotected)
b) If the folder is set on a read only permission change to allow write permission
3. Create the file named spceshot.dll
4. Start dumping the junk data onto the above file and keep increasing its size until the drive is full
5. Once the drive is full, stop the process.

Question 2:

1. Search for the root drive

7. Once the drive is full, stop the process.

Question 3:

1. Troubleshoot
2. Check system files
3. Disk clean-up applications/programs
4. Search & run disk cleaning programs to locate and delete unfamiliar files
5. Run anti-virus program
6. Recover drive

Question 4:

a) Port 80: Cannot access internet & Port 23: Cannot use TCP and UDP, which means you cannot
establish a connection with other hosts.
b) Try to run as administrator and turn on the ports. Otherwise, run an anti-virus program to find
any sort of malicious code.

c) Do not operate on unfamiliar programs and applications, run anti-virus programs, or turn on a
firewall of some sort like a desktop firewall or a firewall on a second computer.
