Online In the activity, students will explore some aspects of a pond ecosystem. They will specifically
Activity look at how temperature, time, and farms influence the oxygen levels in a pond and how
amount and content of oxygen affect fish in the pond.

Prior to this activity, the teacher will go over what ecosystems are and the different things
that can affect an ecosystem. The teacher will also go over the main vocabulary the students
need to know for this assignment.

This class will be asynchronous, so the students will complete the activity alone and turn it in
on blackboard.

First, the students will download the worksheet that accompanies the simulation. Students
will then go to the Explore Learning website and log in. In their class tab will be the assigned
Gizmo.

Students should then launch the Pond Ecosystem Gizmo and begin the assignment following
the given worksheet. Once theyve completed the simulation and worksheet they will take
the assessment located at the bottom of the page that the simulation is on.

When the students finish, they will turn in the worksheet on Blackboard. Although the
students completed the assessment they will not turn in their results. The assessment was
only for their own personal benefit.
Pedagogy


The teachers will also ask students to take a simple survey about whether they liked the
simulation or not. If not, they will be asked what they would have rather done.
