Cell Phones Taking Over

Over the years, technology has grown majorly. We use it every day without even

knowing it. A person could pretty much look up anything they wanted to on the device that we

all carry in our back pockets. Cell phones have turned into our main source of technology. Most

people could do whatever they wanted to on it, from social media or to writing a paper on docs.

Cell phones have started to become something most of us cannot live without. Some people

believe their phone is their life line and they need it in their hands at all times. Cell phones are

very useful but can start causing harm to a persons body or even make them addicted to their

life line. So we as people should realize what we are doing to ourselves is a bad idea and we

need to use them less.

Have you ever seen someone walk around the halls and never look up from their phones

or, they sit in their chair all hunched over looking at that phone screen? Todays generation we

have grown a talent to be able to walk in a crowd and never pick our heads up from our phones.

Over time a person starts having neck or back pain. According to Dr. Kenneth Hansraj, a person

bending their neck at a 60 degree angle is causing them to put sixty pounds of pressure on your

cervical spine. An average person plays on their phone up to 1,400 hours a year. That will

definitely start to cause a hunch beck or some sort of health problem. A person should either pay

attention to how they stand or sit when playing on their phones or just put the phone down for a
Nelson2

while because once they starts to put sixty pounds of pressure on their neck and back they start

getting a hunch in their back and that can cause permanent damage,

Another big talk of health problems that comes along with a cell phone is cancer. Many

people believe that radiation from a phone can cause cancer. Based on Medical News Today

researchers have not found an increase in tumors since phones have become popular. In my

opinion, I agree with this statement because I dont believe they would give us devices that we

carry around and use all day that would cause pain to our bodies. They continue to find new

research on cancer every day. There are many causes of cancer but there isnt one because of

cell phones. Other researchers from The National Cancer Institute believe cell phones can

cause cancer. They believe in this because phones send off radio waves and any tissue can

absorb the radiation. To me it makes sense that tissue can absorb radiation and can cause cancer.

We as people should take that into consideration when we want to play on our phones for hours

and not take a break from it.

In todays generation everything is based off cell phones. A person can easily talk to all

of their friends face to face through facetime and not even have to leave their house to see them.

A person doesnt have to be afraid of the comments they make because they can hide behind

their phone and think its okay to make rude or hurtful comments. Over eighty percent of

teenagers play on their phones daily, making it easier for some to make fun of other people. An

organization called i-SAFE foundation, states that 1 out of 3 teens experience cyberthreats

online. We all know most things we say on the phone is easier to say rather than being face to

face. In this case I believe cell phones are bad. We are slowly losing the ability to talk face to

face with people because it is easier to text them because the words you want to say may be

embarrassing or hurtful. I am the type of person that would like to have conversations face to
Nelson3

face with a person because I feel the connection is always better. Cell phones are a great way to

get into contact with old friends and catch up but its always nice to be able to have a

conversation with them face to face in a resturant or at the local park.

Cell phones have been turning into a persons best friend. A person can play on their

phone all day and all night if they had the choice. They rather play on social media or games

they downloaded. They never want to conversate with the people they are around because they

have all of their attention on their screen. Some people have a hard time detaching themselves

from their phone and having a conversation with a person. In October of 2016, the National

Medicine Institute published how cell phones can cause addiction. They took away some

peoples phones to see how they would react and some started to show withdrawals without their

phones. Cell phones are great for communicating with friends, pass time, or to research a topic.

A phone should not be your life line. A person should have self control and be able to put their

phone down for quite some time. There are greater things in life than playing on a phone all day.

Cell phones have generally started taking over the world almost. They are the first thing

we look at when we wake up in the morning or they are the first thing we grab in a boring or

awkward situation. They are what we call our life line. The amount of things our phones can

do makes it hard for a person not to play on their phones all day. In my opinion cell phones are

great to a certain extent. They are helpful and a great way to communicate with friends. I do not

believe a person should play on their phones so much they start causing health problems to

themselves. A phone is not that important for a person to gain neck/back problems or to even get

cancer for that matter. I believe that it is possible to become addicted to your phone because it is

easy to forget the time as you sit there on your phone for hours. Cell phones are a big deal in

todays generation. I just hope they arent the cause of addiction or serious health problems.

Cell phones have always been important in our day to day lives. They are so handy and

easy to look something up. I feel over time people have started to rely on their phones a little too

much and they start causing pain and hurt on their body because of it. They have also have made

their phone their life line and that is the only way they talk to people. It is important to realize

that over time we might be causing health problems to our bodies just by playing on your phone

for too long. Cell phones are so cool they start to cause a person to become addicted to it. A

person relies on a phone for too long, it becomes the only thing they want to mess with

throughout the day. To me, cell phones have become too handy and easy to get attached to.

With cell phones people also forget how to have face to face communication with people.

They get so use to their communication being through texting, Snapchat, anddm or direct

message. Any conflict they have they are able to hide behind a screen and say things they would

not normally say in person. This has caused bullying incidents to go up. Relationships suffer

because they dont know how to actually interact in person because a majority of the relationship

takes place on a digital screen. This is something that everyone should be more aware of
Nelson6

because it is not only leading towards health problems but also social problems. How are some

people supposed to get a job or have any serious relationship if you dont know how to

communicate with people? You dont because of lacking in people skills.

Most of my sources argue that over time cell phones have taken over. Our generation

is too reliant on them. They are beginning to cause health problems and emotional problems.

They argue that something needs to be done to fix some of these problems and help people

become less reliant on it. This will increase both health and social issues.

In this article, many of these researchers have figured out how addicting cell phones can

be. They have seen a growth in how many people have bought a new phone and how many have

unlimited data. In their experiment, they figured out that if someone were to take another

persons phone they may or may not show signs of withdrawal from it. They show discomfort

and anxiety if they do not have their phone in hand at all times. These doctors are certain that

cell phones have become too handy and easy to use. They feel that we all do not realize how

long we really are on our phones until we start to think about it. Studies have shown that

addiction can happen and it may happen if some people are not careful, just like everything else

they can get addicted to. Everyone is concerned that technology is growing too fast for us

because there are things we can do with technology now that can take over our own jobs but,

they do not realize that the biggest technology based thing is our phones. A cell phone can do so

much a person really do not need to get up from their bed to turn off their house alarm or to let

their mom know they are hungry so they just text her when she is in the next room over.
Nelson7

Addiction is caused because of all these reasons. Try not to play on your phone when you really

dont need to be. I chose this article because I wanted to get my point across that a person can

easily get addicted to their phones just like everything else they can get their hands on.

In this article, it talks about how a person sits and walks in the most comfortable position

to play on their phones and they do not realize that the position they are in can cause harm on

their spinal cord. Because of gravity, a person is generally adding sixty pounds of pressure on

their cervical cord. Because of the pressure and gravity a person generally start slouching and

causing a hunch in your back. Overtime they will get stuck in that position and walk around

with a hunchback and that causes major stress on their neck and back. Just because of the hunch

in a persons back that can affect on your organs because everything starts to cram into each

other when they are meant to be spaces out. Even if a person hold their phone up more and walk

straighter, it can help with how much pressure they have on their neck. They also talk about if

they spent less time on their phones they wont ruin their eyes. Generally we all have to be in

front of a screen for a lot of the day, but if you take time to not be on your phone if you do not

have to you may save your eyes. I can relate to this because I am the only one in my family who

has to wear glasses, and I think it is from playing on my phone for too long and it being too close

to my face. Doctors have realized there is an increase of neck, back, and eye problems over the

years and they believe it is because of cell phones. I chose this article because no one realizes

that slouching over their phone for a period of time can start affecting their posture and internal

health.
