Summary
The Article I chose to summarize is, RESPECTing Culture with All Learners. This
article is about Teachers teaching kids, and the goals that they have for themselves and the
children. It is about the different levels of teaching also. Even though the teachers should go
about the process of teaching in a similar fashion, the more different the level of the students is
the more different goals that will be set by the teacher. This article is also about culture. The
concept of culture may be difficult and challenging to comprehend, and for some teachers it may
appear controversial and uncomfortable, therefore it is easier to avoid. Culture is rather important
though. As stated in the article, Culture is the first standard and forms a purposeful base for all
other learning. The word culture embodies concepts, practices, and values relevant to ever-
changing contexts.
Although this article talks about a lot of different things. Two of the most emphasized
topics that are talked about is RESPECTing the culture in the classroom, and the four part
learning experience. RESPECTing the culture in the classroom relies on a few things. Reality,
Exploration, Senses, Sensitivities, and Sensibilities. It also relies on People, Equity, Care , and
Talk. The respect model is designed to be a recursive approach for reviewing concepts and for

connecting practices to learning and living in the context of cultural competence. Although the
respect model is a part of the four part system, the four part system runs its system based on four
principles. One being, human beings create, learn, share, and adapt to culture. Two. Cultures are
dynamic and change over time. The third thing is, through experience, observation, and
reflection, students will identify elements of culture as well as similarities and differences among
cultural groups across time and place. Last but not least, in schools, this theme typically appears
in units and courses dealing with geography, history, sociology, and anthropology, as well as
multicultural topics across the curriculum.
