Participants will discuss issues of identity, identity formation, identity crisis & identity politics as they relate to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) Muslims. Presenters: Shifan Ahmed & Mohamed Omar Nahas 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. Lunch 1:45-2:00 p.m. Zuht & Ast Salaat (Break for Prayer) 2:10-4:00 p.m. Session #2 Obstacles and Challenges Facing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Muslims Around the World Participants will identify obstactes and challenges facing GLBT ‘Muslims around the world. The goal will be to gain an understanding of similar challenges and conmmon roays to deal with issues that are faced by all GLBT Muslints regardless of race, culture, and/or ethnicity. Presenter: Faisal Alam 4:00-4:10 pm. Break 4:10-6:00 p.m. Session #3 What Islam REALLY says about Homosexuality A theological analysis of what Islam ordains regarding the issue of homosexuality, Participants will analyze the Qur‘anic ayahs (verses) a well as hadith (sayings/teachings) of the Prophet (pbult) that supposedly address the issue. Entertainment & Discussion jund. 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. Breakfast 10:00 - 12:00 a.m, Session #4 A Cross-cultural Comparison of Gender and Sexuality in Muslim Societies A.cross-cultural comparison of various Muslim societies and their views towards gender and sexuality, both present and historic. Presenter(s): ‘To be announced 12.00- 2:00 p.m. Social Hour & Lunch 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Session #5 Celebrating Our Lives As GLBT Muslims How to “celebrate” our lives us gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) Muslims. With the emergence of too very important identities in our lives, this session will focus on how we can affirm ourselves as individuals, and as a larger gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. Presenter(s): ‘To be announced 4:30-9:00 p.m. Preparations for the cruise / 10:00 p.m. Cruise in Boston Harbor Monday, October 12, 1998 10:00- 11:00 a.m. Breakfast 11:00- 1:30 p.m. Session #6 Looking Ahead: Working Together To Create An International Organization For GLBT Muslims Perhaps, the most important session ofall, participants will discuss the future and what we as GLBT Muslims envision, Issues relating 40 the organization and implementation of an international GLBT ‘Muslim organization will also be addressed. ‘Facilitator: Faisal Alam 1:30 3:00 p.m. Lunch, Closing Ceremony, Du'a and Zuhr & Asr Salaat (Prayer)
