O Fareed, leave aside those deeds that yield no fruits. Otherwise, you shall be put to shame, in
the Court of the Vaheguru. || 59 || O Fareed, work for your Lord – Vaheguru and dispel all the
doubts of your mind. Seek the company of the humble devotees of Vaheguru, because they
have the patient endurance of trees. || 60 || O Fareed, I wear all black clothes, and I maintain
black costume. Internally I am full of sins, yet people call me a dervish — a holy man. || 61 ||
p. 137
So what, if you sat down with your eyes closed and posed to be in deep meditation like a crane.
|| You have lost your respect not only in this world but also in the world hereafter, if your mind
remained corrupt and full of vices, even though you may have roamed the entire world taking
bath at all the holy places of pilgrimage. || You have wasted your entire life by sitting in the
company of vicious people. || Listen O people of the world let me tell you the truth about God
realization: Only those who have loved Waheguru – Akalpurakh from the bottom of their heart
have realized Him. || 29 ||

Keep that Sahib (Waheguru) always close to your mind by serving Whom one achieves comfort
and peace of mind. Why to do evil deeds, when we know fully well that we have to reap
whatever we sow? Never even think of doing any harm to anybody, this is the kind of
farsightedness one should have. Let us throw the dice in such a way, that we shall never lose
faith in our Lord - Vaheguru. Take full advantage of the human life by doing such an act that is
profitable. || 21 ||
p. 474
Everyone has to depart from this world leaving behind one’s beauty and beautiful clothes. We
get judged and rewarded on the basis of our good or bad deeds. We may have issued
commands according to our own wishes during our stay in this world, eventually we shall have
to pass through the narrowest path and suffer for the excesses committed by us. It will be the
most dreadful scene, when such a person is thrown into hell and the picture of one’s records is
brought before one’ s own eyes. Bad deeds eventually force a person to repent. || 14 ||

Do only such an act so that no filth of any sort may stick to you. Let your mind stay awake in the
Har-Kirtan, where the Praises of Vahuguru are sung. || 1 || Pause || Lovingly remember One
and only One God – Vaheguru, and have no faith in any one else. Sit in the company of the
O my mind you acquired the wealth of others by using all kinds of foul means. Then you spent it
all on your wife and children. || 1 || O my foolish mind, do not practice deception. In the end,
your soul will have to become accountable for all the follies committed. || 1 || Pause || With the
passing of every moment, the body is wearing away, and old age is asserting itself. And then, in
your old age, no one will be there even to fill your glass with water. || 2 || Says Kabeer, no one
will come to your rescue. Why don’t you start, right now, keeping Vaheguru deep down in your
heart without wasting any time? || 3 || 9 ||
p. 656
O Human being, why are you wasting your life? Intoxicated by the influence of materialistic
things, deeply involved in the pleasure of vices, you have not sought refuge at the feet of
Vaheguru-Akalpurakh. || 1 || Pause || This whole world is like a dream; why, then are you so
much absorbed in it? Everything that is born has to vanish and nothing will stay behind. || 1 ||
You have presumed that this vanish-able body will stay here forever. This is the way you have
entangled yourself. Nanak, the slave says, only that person has salvaged himself/herself, who
lovingly sings Vaheguru’s praises from his/her heart and soul. || 2 || 3 ||
p. 1231
Always lovingly remember and keep Vaheguru Akalpurakh deep down in your heart; this alone
is your job. Abandon your association with Materialistic things, and take shelter at the feet of
Vaheguru. The pleasures of and respect in the world are of no avail; this establishment is just
an illusion. || 1 || Pause || Consider the money as the wealth obtained in a dream. What are
you proud of then? The kingdom of earth is like a wall of sand. || 1 || Slave Nanak says this:
your body shall perish away. With the passing of every moment, yesterday has gone. That is
how today is going to go away. || 2 || 1 ||
p. 1352
Keep moving forward and never turn your shoulder to look backwards. O Nanak, tackle the
problems up front right this time, so that you may not have to be born again. || 1 ||
MEHLA PANJVAAN: My well wisher, my Vaheguru is the friend of every one. All consider Him
as their own; He never breaks anyone’s heart. || 2 ||
MEHLA PANJVAAN: When Waheguru, the hidden jewel within me is found; it became apparent
from my forehead. O Nanak, that place becomes beautiful and exalted where You, O my Dear
Lord dwell. || 3 ||
PAUREE: When You (Waheguru) are on my side, what do I need to care about any one else?
You entrusted everything to me, when I became Your slave. My materialistic wealth does not
get exhausted, even though I consume and spend it freely. All the 8.4 million species of beings
are at your service. You created the enemies as well as friends, yet you do no wish ill of
anyone. When You become merciful, O Waheguru, no one dares to ask the account of deeds.
One finds the utmost peace and comfort after meeting the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. All
the things start moving in the right direction, if You so desire. || 7 ||
p. 1096
O mad man, you have come here to enjoy the life giving Nectar of Naam, but you got busy with
poisonous materialistic things. Now if you are asked, what will you say? || 1 || Pause || You have
gotten this priceless birth as a human being after a long wait. You are losing it in exchange for a
penny. You came here as a customer of musk, but instead, you have loaded up your bag with
glass and thistle grass. || 1 || You came here to make profit, but got entangled in the enticing
illusion of Maya. You have lost the precious jewel, in exchange of mere glass. When will you get
such an opportunity again? || 2 || We are all full of sins, and we have not even one virtue. We
forsake the Lord and Master – Waheguru and get grossly involved with His slave - Maya. And
when the final day of silence (death) comes we get caught like a thief at the door. || 3 || There is
no other way out. Except to seek the Sanctuary of the Lord’s slaves. Nanak says, the only way
this mortal can be salvaged, if all its demerits and faults are erased and eradicated. || 4 || 4 ||
p. 1203
Become the slave of the Saints to gain spiritual experience, learn to build this kind of character.
The greatest of all the virtues is never to consider your Husband (Waheguru), far away from
you. || 1 || Dye this beautiful mind of yours with the fast color of Waheguru’s Naam. Get rid of
your instinct of being very wise, smart & manipulative, and consider Waheguru - the Sustainer
of the world very close to you. || 1 || Pause || Let the acceptance of your Husband’s
When the Husband Vaheguru is within the heart, then Maya, the bride, steps outside.
When one’s Husband Vaheguru is outside of oneself, then Maya, the bride, is in full control.
Without the Name of Vaheguru, one wanders every where in all directions. O Slave Nanak
when the True Guru makes one realize the presence of Vaheguru within, then that person
always stays merged with the absolute Realty - Vaheguru. || 1 ||
One makes all sorts of efforts for other things, but does not make any effort towards One
Vaheguru Akalpurakh. O Nanak, rare are those who understand the importance of making that
effort through which the entire world can be salvaged. || 2 ||
The greatest of the great, infinite is Your Status. It is impossible to understand Your
numerous and colorful actions. You are the Real Soul within all souls; You alone know
everything. Everything is under Your control; Your home is great. Your home is filled with bliss,
which resonates and resounds throughout Your home. You alone is capable of bearing the
entire honor, majesty and glory. You are seen everywhere overflowing with all kind of powers.
Nanak, the slave of Your slaves, is standing in front of you to pray. || 18 ||

O Kabeer, one shouldn’t boast about one’s youthfulness, beauty and wealth. After all it consists
of a bunch of bones wrapped in flesh. Even those who had the luxury to ride the best horses
and sit under the royal canopies, eventually got buried under the ground. || 37 || O Kabeer, one
shouldn’t be proud of one’s palatial place of residence. A day will soon come when we all have
to lie down under the grave, and the grass shall grow over it. || 38 || O Kabeer, one shouldn’t
be so proud (of one’s high financial status), and should not laugh at the poor. The boat of this
life is still in the ocean and the future is highly unpredictable. || 39 || O Kabeer, one shouldn’t
be proud of the glamorous color of one’s body. One day, you will have to leave it behind, like the
snake shedding its skin. || 40 ||

This gardener is plucking the leaves (from a tree) by tearing their life into pieces. That stone
idol, for which she is tearing off these lively leaves, is without any life. || 1 || This gardener is
mistaken. The True Guru - Waheguru is the Living Lord. || 1 || Pause || (O Gardner, according
to your own belief), the leaves indicate the presence of Brahma – the creator in them, the
branches which carry the food to the leaves indicate the presence of Vishnu – the sustainer,
and the flowers – the last stage before fall (death) indicates the presence of Shiva. You have
plucked all the three gods of your conception right before my eyes, whose service are you going
to perform? || 2 || The sculptor has carved the stone and designed it into an idol by placing his
feet upon its chest. If this stone god were true, it would have devoured the sculptor for this act!
|| 3 || Rice and beans, delicious puddings of all kinds, which are placed before the idol are all
consumed by the priest, while this idol gets nothing but dust. || 4 || This gardener is mistaken,
and so is the world, but I got saved from falling into this trap. Kabeer says, that Waheguru-
Akalpurakh has saved me from committing this mistake by showering His Blessings upon me. ||

That union is acceptable in the court of Waheguru, when one gets united with Waheguru. Such
a soul never dies a spiritual death, and does not come back and forth into this world. Such a
devotee remains so much absorbed in Waheguru that it becomes hard to distinguish between
the devotee and Waheguru. Wherever such a devotee looks, he/she sees none other than
Waheguru. || 1 || Worshipping Waheguru through the guidance of Guru leads to the house of
equipoise. But without meeting the Guru, death is there for sure, and coming back and forth into
the world is certain. || 1 || Pause || So make such a person your Guru, who infuses the love
of Waheguru - the Absolute Truth in you, who explains the virtues of that Waheguru, who is
beyond any explanation. Whose words are so miraculous that they merge you with the
Waheguru. No other job is of any importance to God’s people; they love the everlasting True
Lord and Master from the bottom of their heart. || 2 || The mind is in the body, and the
Absolute Reality is in the mind. After meeting Waheguru, one is absorbed into the Absolute
Reality. His devotees are always at His feet. After meeting the True and Perfect Guru, one gets
to meet with Waheguru. || 3 || He Himself watches over us, and He Himself makes us see. He
is not pleased by stubborn attitude, or by various religious robes. He designed all the bodies,
and injected in them the Life giving Nectar into them; Waheguru’s Mind is pleased only by loving
devotional worship. || 4 || There are many who are suffering though they studied and obtained
high worldly education, yet they lost the opportunity to worship. Their over smartness due to
their intellectual studies didn’t lead them anywhere. They keep rotating in the cycle of birth and
death. Those Gurmukhs, who always remember Waheguru lovingly, and eat the food of His
discipline always remain absorbed in Him. || 5 || Those, who worshiped stones, went on
places of pilgrimage and lived in jungles and after wandering & roaming around have become
renunciate. How can their minds become pure that are so filthy? One can get respect and honor
in the court of Waheguru only after merging in Him. || 6 || O my Beloved Waheguru, please put
me in touch with that Guru, who is capable of saving millions of people in the twinkling of an
eye. That Guru who has exceptionally high character and spiritually high thought process and
What good is to read the scriptures, contemplate the Vedas, practice the inner cleansing
techniques of Yoga, and control your breath, if you failed to distance yourself from the company
of the five passions and your bond to egotism kept on increasing. || 1 || O Beloved, this is not
the way to meet the Lord although you have performed a number of rituals so many times. It is
time to accept the defeat and bow down at the Door of the Lord Master and pray to the Lord to
grant wisdom and intellect to distinguish between right and wrong. || Pause || You may remain
silent and use your hands as begging bowls, and wander naked in the forest. You may make
pilgrimages to river banks and sacred shrines all over the world. Of what avail are all these
rituals, if the sense of duality hasn’t left you. || 2 || Your mind’s desires may lead you to go and
dwell at sacred places of pilgrimage, and offer your head to be sawn off. This is not the way to
remove the filth of your mind, even though you may make millions of such efforts. || 3 || You
may give gifts of all sorts — gold, women, horses and elephants. You may make offerings of
corn, clothes and land in abundance, but this will not lead you to the Door of Waheguru. || 4 ||
You may remain devoted to worship of idols and adoration, bowing your forehead to them, and
practice the six religious rituals. All this has invoked ego and pride in you and that is not the way
to meet the Lord - Waheguru. || 5 || You practiced the eighty-four postures of Yoga, and
acquired the supernatural powers of the Siddhas, but these acts made you tired and exhausted.
You may have extended your life through these acts, but failed to break the cycle of birth and
death and obtain union with Waheguru. || 6 || You may have enjoyed princely pleasures, and
royal pomp and show, and issued unchallenged orders. You may lie on beautiful beds,
perfumed with sandalwood, but this will lead you no where else other than the gates of the most
horrible hell. || 7 || Sitting in the company of Devotees and singing the Praises of Waheguru is
the noblest of all deeds. Nanak says, only that person will make this move, who is pre-destined
to receive it. || 8 || Your devotee is intoxicated with Your Love. The Destroyer of the pains of
the poor has become merciful to me, and this mind is imbued with the Praises of the Lord. ||

As the stay of the owner of cattle, who takes them to graze in the adjacent area, is only for a
short period of time, so is our stay in the world. It will be an absolute falsehood, if one start
considering this world as one’s permanent establishment and a place to settle. || 1 || Wake up!
Wake up! O people intoxicated by Maya, look your companion trader is leaving the world. || 1 ||
Pause || The permanent places of residence are built, if our stay here is permanent. The reality
is that when body falls apart, the soul shall depart; but very few people understand this fact. || 2
|| Why do you cry out and mourn for the dead? There is only One Waheguru, Who is, and shall
always be (all others have to go). You mourn for that person now, but your turn is also coming.
When you will go someone will mourn you || 3 || O brothers, you are engrossed in the useless
task of mourning. The dead person does not hear anything at all; your cries are heard only by
other people. || 4 || Only the Waheguru, who causes the mortal to sleep under the influence of
Maya, O Nanak, can awaken him again. One who develops awareness of one’s true home, the
habit of sleeping under the intoxication of attachment goes away. || 5 || If you have seen any
departing person taking the materialistic wealth with him, then go ahead and keep accumulating
that wealth. Make sure that you understand and act upon it. || 6 || Make your deals properly,
obtain profit on your sales, or else you shall regret it later. Abandon your vices, and practice
virtue, obtain such an essence of reality. || 7 || Plant the seed of Truth in the soil of faith,
practice such farming. Only then will you be considered as a true merchant, if you take back
profits with you. || 8 || One gets to meet the True Guru; by the Grace of Waheguru and the
true understanding of Waheguru comes. Then, one chants the Naam, hears the Naam, and
deals only in the Naam. || 9 || Some earn profit by attaching their mind to Waheguru – The
Absolute Truth, whereas others suffer losses by indulging in Maya. This is the tradition of the
world. Whatever pleases Waheguru, O Nanak that alone is the greatest thing for me? ||10|| 13 ||

People engaged in various religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies will get plundered by the
Messenger of Death. Therefore, sing the praises of Waheguru - the Creator. His loving
remembrance even for an instant can salvage us from the entanglement of vices. || 1 || O
Saintly souls make an effort to cross over the world-ocean. One who puts into practice the
Teachings of the Guru, by Guru’s Grace, will be able to get across the ocean. || 1 || Pause ||
Millions of cleansing baths at various places of pilgrimage will be of no avail but to add some
more filth to the body. One who sings the Glorious Praises of Waheguru in the company of
Devotees becomes spotlessly pure. || 2 || Reading all the books of the Vedas, the Quoran &
Bible, the Simritees and the Shaastras, will not bring liberation. One who bears in mind even
one word of the Guru and repeats it from the bottom of one’s heart will be able to acquire a
spotlessly pure reputation. || 3 || The teaching to all the four castes — the Kh’shaatriyas,
Brahmins, Soodras and Vaishyas is the same. That is: All who, while following the instructions
of the Guru, will keep Waheguru’s Naam deep down in their heart will get salvaged from the
clutches of all vices. O Nanak that person will see the same Waheguru permeating in the hearts
of each and every being. || 4 || 3 || 50 ||
