Classroom Management Plan

Samantha Sampson
Rules:
My rules will be posted in the classroom. The rules will spell out an acronym for ARTIST:
A : Attitude is a choice: BE POSITIVE!
R : Raise your hand to ask or tell
T : Try your BEST
I : Immediately follow directions
S : Stay QUIET and focused!
T : Take responsibility: CLEAN UP!

Expectations:
I expect my students to believe in themselves, their ability, and their artworks. It is often
said that art isnt important, art is too hard, not everybody can do it, etc, but I dont believe that
that is true. I think that if students have a positive attitude and are willing to try to do their best
that they will be successful in my class. Most of art is trying, problem solving, and being
creative thinkers. I expect students to be able to translate these skills into their other classes
and experiences in life. Most of all, I expect my students to have fun, get messy, get social, and
believe in themselves because I believe in them!

Room Arrangement:
In my classroom, there will be six student tables to work at. There are drying racks,
portfolio racks, and turn in for a grade boxes in the front of the class. Near my desk in the front
of the class, there will also be one throwing wheel, chalkboard, elmo, smartboard. The students
will have a bathroom in the back of the room with a sink and an art sink for cleaning supplies.
The materials will be placed on a table in the back of the room to be used. The tools and
materials should be returned and cleaned after each period where they came from. The class
will be arranged with a great deal of organization and the students will be expected to keep it
that way.

Positive Reinforcement:
At the end of each period, I will make an overall assessment of the classs behavior if the
class had acceptable behavior they will earn a point. I will give points at the end of the period if
they have behaved in an acceptable manner according to the rules and expectations, but they
will also have the possibility of earning points during the period too. These extra points will be
given at random if the students are following directions or answer random pop questions that I
will ask during class. We will continue to collect points throughout the week and the class with
the most points will get to get a reward such as a piece of candy.

Consequences:
In my class, I hope to start each day fresh with the students. Regardless of what
happened the day before, I want them to think they can start new the next day and correct their
mistakes if theyve made them before.
I will first give the students a warning, I will then initiate a one-on-one conversation first if
necessary, then have time outs (I will tell the student they cannot finish working on the project
for the day to clean up and sit at their desk or a designated area quietly), if the student is still
misbehaving, I will refer them to the office.

Assessments:
For every project the students complete their grade will be accompanied with a rubric to
explain the grade given. Each student will know what is to be expected of them on the rubric
because there will be a copy available in the classroom. I find that rubrics are the best way to
take the subjectivity out of the way in the assessment of artwork because the rubric forms a
grade from several different aspects of the assignment.
There will occasionally be quizzes or tests on new material we cover or on art history.
I will take the students sketchbooks up every Monday for a grade as well. The students
will have sketchbooks that they will write and draw in. I expect 5 pages a week with at least one
critique, a researched artist, gallery/museum visit, and explanation of current pieces they are
working on.
Finally, there will be informal assessments given daily by constant questioning to help
drive my instruction.

Procedures:
Students will be able to talk to their peers at their tables once they have heard the
directions and the teacher has said they could once they have begun working on their projects.
However, the student is expected to focus on directions given during instructional time, and to
follow the directions given to the best of their ability. They should not speak out unless called on
and should be quiet when I am giving directions or speaking. The students will also be asked to
raise their hands and not get out of their seats until called on by myself.
When the students are to clean up, there will be different methods of cleanup based on
the medium we are using. I will demonstrate how to properly clean the materials before we
begin the lesson and allow students a few extra minutes the first time they clean a new material
to make sure they do it correctly. The students are responsible for their own clean up in order to
leave the class.
For any fire, tornado, earthquake drills, I will refer to the school wide methods. The
students should have practiced them before and will know evacuation strategies.

Policies:
I will be adopting the school systems grading of a 7 point grading scale. The grades will
be A (93-100),
B (85-92),
C (77-84),
D (70-76), and
F (0-69).
I will also have individualized rubrics for each final project that is to be graded to explain
the grading process.
