Named the National Director of the NDP in 2016, Robert is
an exciting speaker and experienced social justice advocate.
Formerly director of Oxfam Canada, our new director has a
particular interest in gender equality and womens rights, as
well as climate justice. While at CUPE he was a passionate
advocate against privatization. Come meet the man in the
know about where the NDP is heading!

This Year in the Riding:
Wow, its hard to believe that its already a year since our last
General Meeting. But what a year its been! The BGOS NDP
has been hard at work in the riding. Whether it was voicing
important concerns to the Grey Bruce Poverty Task Force
about the provincial governments Basic Income Guarantee,
our submissions to the House Committee on Electoral
Reform in favour of a more equitable voting system, or the
critical victory over the Trans-Pacific Partnership, weve
made sure that the voice of social justice from Bruce-Grey
gets heard. Please join us on May 12th, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm,
at our AGM to celebrate these achievements!
The AGM is a great chance to catch up on all these exciting
developments, and to reconnect with friends that we dont
often get to see in a riding as big as ours. Its also a chance to
plan for the year ahead: we plan to make it a BIG one! At the
federal level, the NDP is in the midst of an exciting
leadership race that will shape the future of our party, and of
Canada. More than one commentator has remarked on how
much more substantive (and adult) the NDP race is when
contrasted to the leadership bids occurring within other
parties at the moment. Exciting things are happening in the
provincial party too. As Ontario inches closer to the the 2018
election the NDP is preparing to bring forward a substantive
alternative to the current government, one that protects
public assets and looks out for the needs of the middle class,
workers, and rural communities. We are already engaging an
exciting search to find the candidate that can best champion
our cause in the election. Interested individuals should

One final piece of exciting news: our Youth Rep., Michael
Johnston, is beginning to organize a New Democratic Youth
wing for our riding association. Any and all locals under 30
are encouraged to get engaged! Michael will be at the AGM,
eager to discuss this project with all who are interested.
