Overview of the Lesson
Lesson Summary:
During this lesson, students will write a narrative about something that they
did over vacation, focusing on the details of their writing, such as
capitalizations, spacing, spelling and punctuation. Students will be reminded
of capitalizations, punctuation, and spelling prior to writing. Students will also
be reminded to use the word wall when writing their narrative.

Lesson Objectives: The students will be able to

Write a narrative with proper capitalizations, close to perfect spelling,
punctuation, and spacing.

Materials/Equipment to be Used in Teaching the Lesson:

Word wall
Paper
Pencils
White board

Reading: during this lesson, students will read the prompt, as well as
words on the word wall if need be.
Writing: students will write a narrative about one day and the things that
they did in that day, during vacation, using correct punctuation,
capitalization, proper spacing, and close to accurate spelling
Speech: students will share questions and answers to questions during
this lesson, but should other wise be focused on getting their work done
and writing about their day during vacation.
Listening: students will listen to directions and questions asked, as well
as what the writing prompt for the lesson is.

During this lesson, students will be assessed on their ability to follow

directions, writing about one day during vacation and focusing on the
capitalizations, punctuation, spelling, and spacing in their writing.

Action/Instructional Procedures

Procedures: For each procedure, list the teacher or student actions (with
accommodations and modifications) as well as the anticipated amount of time it will take
to accomplish each task.

Anticipatory Set: (hook) I know that we all have so many things that we want to
tell each other about vacation, so today we are going to get to pick one thing that
we did over vacation and write about it.

Step One: Before we get started with our writing, I was wondering would could
tell me how we start a sentence? What kind of letter do we put at the beginning of
a sentence? (wait for student response) Yes, a capital letter! We always have to
remember that when we are starting a new sentence that we have to use a capital
letter.

Step Two: Now that we know what starts the sentence, who can tell me what
comes at the end of a sentence? (wait for student response). Yes, a period. If we
forget to put a period at the end of our sentence, the person who is reading our
writing, might get a little confused, right? So, we have to remember to put our
punctuation at the end of our sentences. If I am writing and I dont remember how
to spell a word, what is something that I can do to help myself write the word?
(wait for student response). Yes, we can sound it out, but what else can we do?
Where can we look in the classroom? (wait for student response). We can look at
the word wall! Excellent. Today when we are writing, I want to make sure that we
are all looking at the word wall if we need help spelling some words. I will write a
few word on the board that you might want to use that arent on the word wall,
too.

Step Three: We are now going to start writing. I am going to be walking around
making sure that you are doing your very best job and showing me that you are
using capital letters and periods at the end of your sentences. (split students up to
go sit at different tables, to start working)

Step Four: (After students have worked for a while, students will come back to
the rug to share what they have written about). Who would like to share what they
wrote about today? (pick a few students to share). Great work today my friends,
we are going to go back to our homerooms now for lunch time.
