ENGLISH (LEVEL 13),

UNIT I: HOW TO MAKE AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION.

CONTENT I:

1. Hoy many products was Steve Job introducing in his presentation?


He was introducing three products in one.

2. Why do you think people were so motivated and enthusiastic about Steve Job's
introduction for this presentation?

3. People were interested because he properly pauses between his words allowing
people to assimilate the message correctly, however the most important is his way
of speaking with a little intrigue being basically the key to keeping people alert.

CONTENT II:

1. The presenter says that there is not one perfect way to start a presentation. Do
you agree with this statement? Why? Why not?
Im disagree because if you are focus and with confidence about what you are
goign to say and from the begining you maintain interested people that would be a
good start.

2. He mentions some things you shouldn't do.What are they?Why do you think that
is?
You dont have to say things that are very obvious or things that problably people
already know, on the other hand, you dont have to talk about you constantly
especially in the beginning of the speech.

3. What does the speaker mean when he says: "Talk about your audiences
needs?
Means that the message has to be oriented to things which are important to
people or something that it could leave them a learning.

CONTENT III:

First, read the following questions and make sure you understand all the words and
phrases.

1. Why do students think that SPEAKING TO A GROUP is #1 in list of fears?


Basically because people care about what other people think about them and
especially on this situation they are afraid of making a mistake that can become
into mockery.

thinking in others thing.

Veracity

9. When the presenter says: LEARN TO STOP TALKING, LET PEOPLE


DIGEST WHAT YOU SAID What does he mean by that? Have you ever been
in a situation like that? How do you feel?
That basically you have to talk slowly making pause in order with people can
assimilate what you are saying.

10. He refers to something as THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. What is it?


Why do you think that is?

the rules. Why does he say that? Do you agree with that?
Because some people have carisma.

Now, you are going to evaluate a student's presentation.

First, read the items to be evaluated.

Second, watch the video.


Third, write down your opinion about the following items:

Planning and preparation: A planification is something essential in wherever


situation of the life, because allow you to be prepared and establish your objetives,
what do you want to give to people? and how you can get there in an efficient way?
Well, this questions could be answer with a good planification.

Attitude towards the audience: people can percibe when you are unsure from the
moment that you assume a bad corporal lenguaje or a nervous attitute, and is a
point remarkable because this may detract the relevant of your message, people
will not believe you so much

Body Language

Opening : the begining of your desertation is relevant because, if you start well you
probabaly are gonna finish well, however the most importart here is basically
orient your firsts words to people, involved them from the beginnig and of thta
manner you are gonna get their attention.

Presentation of objectives: you have to leave clear what is purpouse of you


disertation.

Use of audiovisual resources: You can present your goals on a slide with a good
design however it is not always necessary

6. Power point presentation (design, colors, font size, effects, etc)

10. Overall evaluation: make a general evaluation are going to allow you what you
can improve or you can omitt to comply correctly your porpuse.

9. Conclusions: This part is relevant because it allows you to summarize the


presentation and can help to emphasize your message

UNIT III: READING AND LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILLS.

CONTENT I:

1. Why do you think strong reading comprehension skills help in all the other
subjects, and in the personal/professional lives?
Because if you count with that ability you can understand something very quickly
and make an analysis with accuracy of an specific topic

2. What is the first strategy given?


The first stragy is the preview of the material that you want to understand, and
basically is an inspection of the Reading, here want of the reconmendation is
reduce the information, for example if you have to read 20 pages of history that is a
lot information so you can break it and studying for lotes and of that manner you
are not going to saturate your brain. In this part you also should ask yourself what
do you know about the topic try to recall that a jot it down in your notebook.

3. What are the tips given in the review section?


One of the tips is taht you have to read the notes that you did previusly and see is
make sense what you wrote it does not have sense you have to reread the
information again and write your conclusions.

4. What is the second strategy?


The scond one is outlining and here you have to begin Reading the information
and take notes, then ask yourself What was the main idea of the Reading? If yo
can not answer that question you have to read. Then when you finish with the
Reading you should take a break because our brains just can absor information in
one time.

5. Have you applied these strategies?


No I havent I usually start Reading and try to understand the objective or finally of
the topic.

6. What learning styles are mentioned?


I remember that were mentioned visual, reading and auditory learners.
7. What are the strategies given for auditory learners?
Some strategies are that you have to make a visually scanner of the information
specially the headings and then if you count with the help of someone that person
can read the information for you and of that manner you will be able to understant
better.

CONTENT II:
What is skimming?
Is the process of Reading only the main ideas in order to get an general impression
of the topic that you select.
How do you skim?
Well, basically Reading summaries, conclusions and the first and last lines of
paragraph of the information
What is scanning?
This is the process of Reading the material omiting unrelated information in order
to get an answer very quickly.

How do you scan?


You can read selectively parts of the information, for example is you are Reading
the Venezuela history and you need to know what occur in 1830 you can localize
that number and start to read from that part.
Have you applied these strategies?
Yes I have, specificly scannig is very helpfull to me when a I know exactly waht I
need to know in an specific topic.

CONTENT III:
1. What is Active Listening?
Is the process of listenning to permanently what other person says in order to
grasp very well the message.

2- How many tips are given in the article to improve Active Listening?
The article shows ten tips

3- Have you applied any of them?


Yes I have, specially the first one, when I go a class I usually read about the
topic that we are going to see for at least have an idea about the topic

4- Which one do you find more helpful?


Well, I think the first like I said this allow you to have a nocion about the
topic, another is the fourth be attentive because is you pay attention you will
be able to get the idea.
