EDUC. 201: Foundations of Education

AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL 2
Autobiographical

Education is a very important piece in every individuals life. The things that we

learn shape us into who we are and help us make decisions on who we will become. I

have found that education is a passion of mine and I love helping individuals around me

succeed. This has helped me choose to become an educator. My educational background,

work history, service and extracurricular activities, my reasons behind wanting to be and

educator, and my professional goals will make me a great candidate for success in the

education department.

Educational Background

I attended the Kimberly School District for the majority of my education

experience. During this time I found that there were many wonderful teachers in the

district that I looked up to. I had a great foundation of teachers that I would like to

emulate in my future classroom. Once I graduated from Kimberly High School I knew I

wanted to pursue a higher education. I had wonderful teachers that opened my eyes to all

the opportunities that I could take. Educators helped me get involved and active in

school. It was through strong teachers that I found my desire to go on and pursue

education.

I am currently attending at CSI and am striving to graduate and continue on to a

university. Throughout my education experience I have strived to be active and involved

with the students around me. In Middle school I was part of the student body council, and

currently I serve as an ASCSI senator. My educational experience will help contribute to

my development as an educator. I have seen from the student perspective as a student

body representative what needs the students desire to have met. I have had wonderful

opportunities to be actively evolved with the students around me and I hope to continue

that in my classroom. I want my students to know that I have an open door and I truly

want them to succeed. My experiences will help me be a strong teacher because I know

what the students need and desire. I will be able to address the concerns and needs of my

students, while maintaining a professional environment.

Work History

From a very young age I learned how to work hard and accomplish hard things. I

learned that through hard work you will reap what you sew. This has helped be develop in

the workforce. I have held a variety of positions such as a Life Guard, Water Safety

Instructor, Life Guard Instructor/ Manager, Office Personnel, and currently I am a

Waitress. All of these roles have different requirements but the main objective of all of

these professions are to serve the public accurately, safely, and effectively. These

experiences have helped contribute to my development as a professional educator.

Listening to what others need is crucial, attention to detail is vital, and that there

must be organization. I have come to grasp this concept form my work experiences. This

will help me be attentive to my students and help me run a structured learning

environment in my classroom. Every child deserves a positive, structured, and fun

learning environment. I know that through my experience in the workforce and my

attention to detail will be assets that I can use when I have my own classroom.

Service and Extracurricular Activities

Service is one of the key aspects to success in my eyes. Throughout my

educational career I have been very active and involved in serving others. Some examples

are: Key Club, National Honors Society, Natural Helpers, Tri- M, Honors Choir, Band,

and I was on the Dance Team. I loved helping others around me and being attentive to the

needs of others. My education and experience has contributed to my development as a

professional educator. I saw the joy and light that it brought to others when there were

acts of service. I firmly believe that educations keystone is service. Educators pour their

heart and soul into their students and truly want them to be successful and achieve their

goals.

Through the service based programs that I was involved in I learned to be very

organized and have structure in my everyday so that I can accomplish my tasks. I also

have learned communication skills and how to help others around me. These qualities

will help me be a strong teacher because I will know to evaluate my students needs. My

experience with having a busy, yet structured, schedule will help me stay organized in my

classes. My experience with the extracurricular activities I participated in were service

based. This will help me serve my students.

Reasons for Choosing Education as a Career

Choosing to become an educator is a chose that is laced with responsibility. I first

considered teaching when I began my job as a Water Safety Instructor. I loved working

with the kids and I knew that I was making a difference in their lives. The skills that I

was teaching them could literally save them. When I decided to become an educator I

made a commitment that I was going to be responsible for the success of my future

students. This is a huge responsibility, yet a very exciting commitment.

I decided to go into education this semester (2017 Spring Semester) and I am

content with my decision. Once I began the education classes it reminded me why I loved

being a Water Safety Instructor. It was because I got to work with the children and watch

them grow. I am excited to help my future students learn and grow. One of my greatest

joys from teaching will be to see my students pursue their goals and dreams.

Professional Goals

When reflecting on my professional goals there are many things that flood my

mind. My short term goals are to graduate from CSI and continue serving the individuals

around me. A long term goal of mine is to graduate from a University and then get into

the Education Field. From there I want to continue of and get a Masters degree and

eventually receive the training needed to go into businesses and teach safety. Outside of

education I want to get married and begin a family of my own. I love children and I look

forward to having my own someday. Education is a wonderful profession that will allow

me to help and serve others, and help my own family someday.

I intend to make a difference in the world. I want to help students love learning. I

enjoy putting my heart and soul into my work, and I am a hard worker that loves to serve

the people around me. I want to influence people in the positive way that others have

done for me. My educators helped me find my path, and helped me become who I am

today. I hope to be that inspiration to my students someday. I plan to achieve this goal by

taking it one day at a time and striving to do my best. I will finish here at CSI and

continue on to a university, and after that I hope to begin my journey as an educator.

Educators shape the world. Without education there would be no progression. I

have had wonderful educators in my life that have impacted me, and helped make me

who I am. I do not know where I would be today without the wonderful educators that I

had. I am eager to begin my journey as an educator, and I am excited to impact my

students like my teachers impacted me.
