Fuzzy Logic Based Room Automation With Temperature

Measurement

Introduction

Todays era is electronics era. In our daily life we deal with number of
electronics goods and item. Technology is becoming a major part of our life.
So I am going to discuss a very common and adaptable project. Now a day

rush is growing very rapidly specially in public places. My project is Fuzzy

Logic Based Room Automation. Its very common in mall and offices.
Where a smart device counts the number of persons entered or exited from a
cabin or some hall. Also we are doing Temperature measurement, by using
LM35 Temperature Sensor. To demonstrate this model I am using the
concept of IR along with microcontroller and LCD. IR sensors are used to
detect the persons entered and exited. A microcontroller is used for
counting. No of persons counted by the microcontroller and temperature
measure by LM35 is show on LCD, Which is basically an output device. LCD is
a display device. LCD is passive device it needs some commands to display
something on it. Microcontroller is also responsible for the commands of LCD.
A power supply unit is used to Power up the Microcontroller, LCD and
sensors..

Fuzzy Logic

Fuzzy logic was coined in the year 1965 by Lotfi Zadeh. From then on, the
history of fuzzy logic follows the pattern of many recent key technologies:
invented in the U.S., engineered to perfection in Europe, and currently, mass-
marketed in Japan.

In recent times, fuzzy logic has been used and applied in wide areas, starting
from consumer electronics like washing machines to robotics to many
industrial control systems like temperature controllers for process plants etc,
It is a logic that recognizes more than simple true and false values. With
fuzzy logic, propositions can be represented with degrees of truthfulness and
falsehood. Fuzzy logic has proved to be particularly useful in expert system
and other artificial intelligence applications.

Working
Power Supply: - Power supply is the essential part of any device or
project. We are using relays, microcontroller and LCD. These components
needs +5V DC supply. So we need a power supply circuit of +5V DC. Power
supply circuit includes step down transformer, rectifier circuit, filter circuit
and regulator circuit. A indicating component is also attached with the
power supply to indicate the power ON condition of power supply unit.

Microcontroller: - A microcontroller is a intelligent device, which

take actions according to their programming. We are using AT89S52
microcontroller. Microcontroller works on +5V DC power supply. Its a 40 pin
microcontroller. This microcontroller has 4 input/output ports. Each port is of
8 bit. Means we can connect up to 32 devices to this microcontroller. LCD
and IR sensors are coupled with the microcontroller. Microcontroller
continuously read the status of IR sensors. Microcontroller includes reset
and crystal circuit for its own functioning.

Infrared Sensor: - An infrared sensor is an electronic device that

emits and/or detects infrared radiation in order to sense some aspect of its
surroundings. Infrared sensors can measure the heat of an object, as well as
detect motion. Many of these types of sensors only measure infrared
radiation, rather than emitting it, and thus are known as passive infrared
(PIR) sensors.

Display: - A LCD is used as a display device. Verities of LCDs are

available in market. 16*2 is a very common LCD, which has 2 row for
display. Each row can display 16 letters. It needs +5V DC as power supply.
16*2 is 16 pin LCD. 8 pins are used as data pin and 3 pins are used as the
control pin of LCDs
Relay: - It is an electromagnetic switch which is used to switch ON or
OFF the appliances automatically.

ADC0804: - This IC is specially used with microcontroller 8051 to

measure the analog inputs and convert it into the digital values to be read
by the controllers, It is specially used to measure analog quantities like,
temperature and humidity etc.

LM35: - It is temperature used to measure temperature in the

atmosphere around it. It is an analog sensor whose outputs need to be
converted into digital first.
