Procedure:
Introductions: (2-3 minutes) Good morning everyone! Who can tell me what my name
is? Who can tell me what I do here at school?
o Opening up with the same or similar statement each lesson to gauge students
perspective of who I am.
o Ms. Sonnessa, School counselor. I am here to help all the students in three main
domains: social/emotional development, career development, and academics
(Idea taken from observation of another school counselor.)
Activities
o K-3rd grade
Creative: (10 minutes) How We Feel About Bullying
Allow students to draw and write how bullying feels. (Display on
monthly bulletin. Students dont have to submit if they do not
want to.)
o 3rd-5th grade
Positive Statements: (5 minutes)
Have students give another classmate one positive trait that they
see in them, while the counselor writes each one on the
SMARTboard or dry erase board.
o How does this feel?
Wrap-up: (2 minutes) Great work today! Lets keep in mind, that just like the Sneetches we can
feel better when we are nice to each other.
