Performance Task Annotation
Students will use the website Piktochart.com to design an Internet Saftey poster on what they
learned about how to be safe online,

Approximate Duration of Performance Task- 3- 45 minute class periods

ELAGSE5RI9: Integrate information from several texts on the same topic in
order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.

National Standards

Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

Description and Teacher Directions
Day 1
Before beginning this lesson, the students need to have completed their digital citizenship course
and have discussed the dos and donts of online safety.
Begin the lesson with reviewing and discussing the How to be safe while surfing the internet
Powerpoint with the students.

%20Passport%20Privacy%20Vid then the students will take the Safe Internet Surfing Quiz
located at http://www.safesurfingkids.com/quiz/safe_internet_kids_quiz.htm
Discuss and have students take the Internet Safety Pledge located at
http://www.netsmartz.org/Resources/Pledges
Day 2
Handout and discuss Online Safety poster assignment, guidelines, and rubric
Help students log onto piktochart.com website and create free account
Have students brainstorm in groups for about 15 minutes about information to include on their
poster
Have students work independently to begin creating their poster on piktochart.com
Day 3
Student will complete poster today once completed they will Save As .jpg file and submit to
teacher via directions on assignment handout

Rubric Description- The rubric includes 5 elements that must be included on the poster to
successfully complete this assignment.

Setting
The classroom is set up with desks in a U shape all facing the SmartBoard in front of the
classroom. The beginning of the lesson will be presented by the teacher on the SmartBoard. The
individual work will be done at the students desk on their school issued Chromebook.
