The story of computers

The first computers started operations in the early 1940s. They were very huge! Do you have any idea how
much space they took up? They took up the size of a whole room! In addition, they used up a lot of electricity.
They used machine language, a low-level programming language, so they worked slowly solving one problem at
a time. These computers always broke down because they generated a lot of heat.
The second generation of computers came in the mid-1950s. These computers were smaller because they
used transistor. They used symbolic language which enabled them to work faster.
The third generation of computers used integrated circuit to improve their performance in speed. These
computers work very quickly and efficiently. The users use keyboards and monitors to interact with the
computers.
The most exciting period in the development of computers is the fourth generation of computers. They were
introduced in 1971. These computers use microprocessors. As a result, the computers can fit in the palm of our
hand. These computers can form networks because they are very powerful.
