AS I LAY DYINGto headline this years PULP SUMMER SLAM XIII on April 27, 2013

Here is my review on their latest album AWAKENED, released September 2012.

For those who are not familiar with this band, they are a metalcore band with
Christian influences. Yes, you have read that right, the band proudly voice their
Christian belief. Lyrics of their songs revolve on a Christians perspective on life,
struggles, mistakes and other relationships.

Awakened is the bands sixth album. The band has gone from the traditional
metalcore sound to a more diverse sound. More melody, catchy lyrics, face melting
solos, and their thrash elements are still intact. The messages from their writing is
not an in your face preaching but rather it connects to the listeners point of view as
a Christian to the outside world.

The track Whispering Silence stood out for me. The transition of the melodies
from Tim Lambesis growls to Josh Gilberts clean vocals is superb and the riff is
simple but very catchy. This track could be a good opener for PSS XIII. Another
highlight of the album is Jordan Mancinos drumming. Its always a good listening
when he is behind the kit.

I tend to be selective in metalcore bands, but this album embraces thrash,

melodeath and groove elements. I will definitely enjoy watching and slamming in
the pit with AILD come April 27 in Manila.
