specification should enable the successful tender applicant to successfully build the Mars
Lander to a standard expected by the Client, EMPACT.

2.3 Cost of Materials

Table 2 below is a list of the estimated cost of building the Mars Lander based on
materials specified in the drawings.

Table 2: Cost of materials

2.5 Construction Method
The following section contains details of how the parts of the car are to be constructed
and later assembled into a final piece in chronological order.

2.6 Main Body

Cut the wood to the length and width specified in the dimensions of the drawings.

2.7 Legs
Cut legs to dimensions specified in drawing specifications such that sides to be
joined to main body are cut at 60 degrees.

Cut a hole in each leg for the axle and a provision for the wheel according to
dimensions provided.
Put wheel in cut space and fit axle through holes the in leg and wheel for all four
legs.

Glue the axle to the two holes in each leg by putting glue between the two holes in
each leg. Before actually adding glue, ensure wheel has been place in designated
space in the leg and that glue is not placed in the hole of the wheel. Refer to 3D
drawing for clarity. Repeat for each leg.

2.8 Mars Lander Assembly
Attach all for legs to main body as shown in 3D drawing using hinges.

Attach rubber bands along the length of the Mars Lander as shown in the drawings,
Rubber bands should be cut and put through the hole in the axle of one side of the
Mars Lander and drawn through the corresponding axle and tied with a tight knot,
Use 3 strong rubber bands on each side.

Water bottle should be secured tightly on the top of the Mars Lander using rubber
bands. Rubber bands should be cut and secured with a knot after placing water
bottle horizontally on top of the car. Use two rubber bands.

Add oil to the area in between the hole of the wheels and the axle.

2.9 Pressure Testing and Final Inspection

Use your hand to apply pressure on the car. If the wheels move outwards and
inwards slightly when pressure is released, rubber bands have been secured
properly. If this test fails, use more rubber bands until the movements are slight.

To test out movement, roll the finished car on a flat surface. If its wheels are able
to roll without any hindrance, the car has been constructed correctly.
