Technology will be integrated with the PowerPoint and graphic organizer to show skills with technology and
knowledge from the lesson

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

This lesson recalls info on previous information given from lessons about The Great Lakes
This lesson prepares students for collecting further research to put into something more extreme than a graphic
organizer
Students are able to make their graphic organizer in their own way while meeting requirements given by the
teacher

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction: TTW ask the students if they know what a graphic organizer is, TTW explain to the students what
it is and then ask if they remember talking about The Great Lakes and if so, ask them name a fact or two that they
remember. TTW then tell the students that they are going to learn more about the lakes by going through a power
point to gain info to put into an awesome graphic organizer. (5 min)
Procedures: TTW ask the students to get out a couple pieces of paper to take notes on. TTW then go through the
power point with the students answering any questions asked.
TTW then advise the students to get a laptop from the laptop cart and tell them to go to the Kidspiration app on
their desktop (for this lesson I am assuming it is already downloaded because it would be too difficult and time
consuming to explain to them how to download it). TTW then pass out the hand out with the requirements for the
graphic organizer.
TTW explain to the students how to use the app and go into as much detail as possible to try and prevent any
confusion
TTW tell students to begin working and to tell them to raise their hands if they have any questions. TTW also play
soft music while students are working.
TTW walk around the room making sure everyone is on task/knows what they are doing. (65 min)
Closure: Once everyone has completed their graphic organizer they will print it off using the classroom or
hallway printer and then turn it into the teacher. (if there is not accessible printer the student will bring their laptop
to the teacher to show completed work). TTW ask for volunteers to help hang the graphic organizers on the wall
and then ask the students to volunteer and share what they liked about todays activity. (10-20 min)

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
The notes students take and graphic organizer will be taken for a grade
The graphic organizer must reach all requirements in order to receive full credit

MODIFICATIONS:
TTW walk around the room helping anyone who is struggling
Enriched students will be offered free time to read a book or work on another assignment upon completion
