Introduction:
Kindergarteners, we are going to read this story I Like Myself. In this story the character
describes why she likes herself based on how she expresses herself. She explains that she
does not care about what she looks like on the outside because it is what is on the inside
that counts.
Read Story
Now we are going to write in our journals about what we like about ourselves, on the
inside. I want you to start thinking of ways you express yourself from the inside. In the
book she says, I like me on the inside, too, for all I think and say and do. Share with a
partner how you express yourself from the inside.
Students share with each other.
Raise your hand if you want to share what you like about yourself on the inside.
Write ideas on the board.
Activities:
Now you are going to have time to write in your journal about how you express yourself
from what you think and feel on the inside.
Dismiss students from the carpet and begin individually conferencing with students.
Closure:
Have three students share their journal writings. Talk about how they were working hard
during the whole writing time, remembering capital letters and wrote about the internal
characteristics of themselves.
Differentiation: The students will work on their individual journal writings on their own pace.
