Yoga and Meditation

Our project is about yoga and meditation and how they are connected. We are going to

explain the concepts and uses of yoga while giving examples of different poses, describe

meditation and its purposes, then explain how the two are interconnected. We plan on using

Google Slides, where we will be including pictures and/or short clips to depict the different yoga

poses and their names. For some of the poses, we can demonstrate them to the class and have the

class join along. To research our topic, we will use the internet and the Atkins Library online

database to get reliable sources for our power point on the purposes of yoga, and how it differs

from culture to culture. We know that meditation and yoga are more significant in some cultures

more than others, so we are going to research which ones utilize it the most, and why.

Our project design is effective for our project because visuals work very well because it is

difficult to fully mentally visualize a yoga pose using just words, so pictures and videos are very

useful, as well as in-person demonstrations. The recommendations from the class included a

presentation of some of the poses, which we will do to make the presentation more interesting

and engaging. In addition, this topic can be useful for college students because yoga and

meditation can help alleviate and decrease stress, which college brings a lot of. In addition, I am

sure at least a few people have done yoga before so it can be interesting. There is yoga available

on campus, so it is an easily accessible activity to try out.

For this project we are breaking up the workload between the 3 of us by sub-topics.

Kelsey will research and create the slides for what yoga is and its purpose, where it is used, and

the difference in its uses from culture to culture. Sarah will research what meditation is, how it is

used, where it is used, and how the use of meditation differs between cultures. Soumya will

research the connection between yoga and meditation, as well as examples of yoga poses and

where one can practice yoga and meditation, both in general as well as specific locations near

campus.

We plan to end our presentation with examples of yoga poses. We would like to get the

whole class involved and be able to physically show the benefits of yoga in a hands on way with

the class. By the end of our presentation we would like our classmates to leave with an
understanding of yoga and meditation and how it can help the mind and body. We also want our

peers to take away some basic poses and to hopefully encourage everyone to want to try yoga

and/or meditation for themselves.
