Students will be comfortable working with classmates as well as gaining some
confidence in their dribbling and passing skills.

Pre-assessment (for learning):

In the warmup ask students to demonstrate chest pass, bounce pass, and overhead pass

Materials-what materials Cones and the small circle matts, basketball hoops, cell phones/video cameras,
(books, handouts, etc) do student journals
you need for this lesson
and are they ready to
use?

Make sure all hoops are available and at the appropriate height. Make sure to
have cones easily available so you can quick scatter them around the gym. Also
have lily pads (circle pads) ready so that you can place those around the hoop for
around the world so players know where to shoot form.
How will your classroom
be set up for this lesson?

III. The Plan

Describe teacher activities AND student activities
Time Components for each component of the lesson. Include important higher order thinking questions and/or
prompts.

Each person will get a ball. Cones will be

spread out all over the floor. Team 1 will
be trying to knock the cones over while
still dribbling while team two must pick
them up while still dribbling the ball. At
the end of the time limit whoever has
the most cones either knocked down or
still standing wins.

the lesson) The next important fundamental of
basketball is shooting and having correct
shooting form. First I will demonstrate
the proper way to shoot:
For right hand shooters, your right food
should be centered with the basket and
pointing directly towards the middle of
the basket. (Opposite for left hand
shooters) Your left foot should be
shoulder width apart and can be slightly
behind the other foot, whatever feels
comfortable.

Second, bend your knees slightly.
Next, hold the ball in your hand, palm
facing up. Take your non-shooting hand
and place it on the side of the ball so
that it only there to guide the ball.
Your arm should form a 90-degree angle.
Your triceps should be parallel with the
floor and directly above your right leg.
Your wrist should be bent with fingers
spread out.
When you feel ready proceed to shoot,
using your legs in every shot. You should Students will grab a ball find a place by a

After a few minutes of practicing

students will be allowed to go get their
phones (or rotate using mine if they
dont have one) to take videos of each
other shooting the basketball into the
hoop. The purpose of this activity is so
that students can go back and reflect on
their shoot and play it in slow motion to
look at their form. *At the end of the
unit they will video themselves
again to see improvement*

culmination, practicing every day. Once you get good
wrap-up) doesnt mean you can just stop doing it.
Also, you can practice shooting at home

9-15-14
if you have a basketball even if you dont
have a hoop nearby you can still practice
form shooting. Even laying on the
ground and just tossing the ball to
yourself with the correct form is
productive! Thanks, everyone for your Students will write in their journals how confident

classmates! additional thoughts or problems going through their
head before they leave.

Your reflection about the lesson, including evidence(s) of student learning and engagement, as well as ideas for improvement
for next time. (Write this after teaching the lesson, if you had a chance to teach it. If you did not teach this lesson, focus on the
process of preparing the lesson.)
I did not have the opportunity to teach this lesson but while preparing it I ran into a few questions about how I was going to
incorporate the technology piece. I loved the idea of having a visual aid and for students to see themselves shoot, because its
hard to tell in the movement if you are doing something wrong or if there is something slightly off that could be tweaked. I
decided to let students use their phones and bring them to class because it would be more productive then just passing around
my phone which would take a while among 25 students. I am trusting that students are being responsible with this privilege
to have their phones out and giving them only five minutes to film and then they must put their phones away for the
remainder of the class. I will need to be extra careful and make sure they dont abuse this privilege.
