This study aims to identify the relationship between the leadership style of

the teacher with the work motivation of primary school teachers in the

coastal areas of Kedah. The respondents consist of 130 teachers. The

headmasters leadership style has been measured using Harris and Ogbonna

(2001) instruments. However, the motivation of teachers was measured

using Trembley et al (2009) instruments, using the work Estrinsic and

Motivation scale (WEIMS). A pilot study has demonstrated that Cronbach

alpha values for leadership style is between 0.71 to 0.88 and 0.64 for

motivation. Descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage and statistical

inference in the form of Pearson correlation coefficient was used to test

hypotheses on the significant level of .05. The findings of this study have

shown that the leadership style of the dominant teachers of national schools

in the coastal areas of Kedah is the leadership style of support while the

motivation of teachers is at a moderate level. The results also showed that

there was a significant relationship between the leadership styles of teachers

with teachers' motivation (r = 0.40, p <.05).
