2 What is Volkswagen?
-Volkswagen or VW is a German car manufacturer

-Volkswagen is part of a Group that is comprised of

twelve car, and car-related, companies

-Currently the world's largest automotive

manufacturer

3 The Spawn of VW

-Volkswagen was founded in Wolfsburg, Germany on May 28, 1937

-They were founded by the German Government, which at the time

was under Hitler's, and the Nazi Party's, control

-Following a series of long names, it was ultimately shortened to just
Volkswagen in 1946, The Peoples Car

4 VW Post WW2
-Following the end of the war VWs only production factory had been bombed
and left in ruins

-The company and factory had no true management following the war, seeing
as Hitler was dead and the Nazi Party and government were left in shambles

-In 1946 the Allied Military Government appointed a British Major, Ivan Hirst, to
run the factory

5 VW Post WW2
-In 1949 Heinz Nordhoff takes over the factory

-Volkswagen struggled to sell its cars overseas

-In 1949 Volkswagen debuted in the US and only

sold 2 cars the whole year

6 The Rise of VW

-Beetle sales reach 1 million in 1955

-In 1964 Volkswagen buys its first car company,

Auto Union (producer of Audi)

-In 1975 VW Group is created as a holding

company, to buy other car companies

-The group acquires 10 car companies in a span

of 25 years

7 Logo and Slogan

-logo shows the V and W from Volkswagen

-The blue is to create a friendly global image

-The slogan is Das Auto, which translates to

-The companies intended meaning is that

-Created by Hitler and Ferdinand Porsche, referred to as Type 1

-First civilian model made in 1945

-The Beetle was largely produced from 1945-2003
