For the assignment interviewing a Registered Dietitian I chose to interview

Deanna Wolfe. She is a Corporate Dietitian and co-founder of a Consulting Business.

She also has her own blog, where she uploads recipes, tips and helps to inspire people to

take the best care of themselves. In my interview I asked Ms. Wolfe questions about her

education and experience, present position, dietetics job opportunities and competition,

including any disadvantages of the dietetics profession and her personal philosophy.

Education of the Dietitian

Deanna Wolfe attended the University of Pittsburgh were she earned her Bachelor

of Science in Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition, and then went on to earn her Master of

Science degree in the Coordinated Masters in Dietetics program. She described to me

that the Coordinated Masters program was an intensive 2 year program that also included

an internship within the program. Deanna is also currently registered with the American

Dietetics Association. She also providings health coaching and nutrition counseling to

clients with various diseases. She is an ACE Certified Health Coach and Group Fitness

Instructor and is currently working towards her Certified Diabetes Educator credentials.

Present Position

Deanna Wolfes present position is working in corporate wellness for a health

management solution for the past 3 years, she also co-founded a nutrition consulting

business. Her job in corporate wellness includes helping clients, which is mostly
employers, reduce health costs by reducing population health risks. With her nutrition

consulting business she helps clients with different goals from reverse dieting,

competition preparation, building lean muscle tissue, losing body fat, improving health

conditions, and building a better overall mind and body. She chose to work in the

corportate field of dietetics because of the job potential, growth and mostly due to her

personal interests and passions. When I asked what is the most frustrating part of her job,

she said nothing is frustrating when you work in a field you love.

Education & Experience Influcence on daily life

When I asked Deanna how does her edcation and experience in the dietetics field

influence her daily life, she responded by telling me that she believes being a dietitian

influences your daily life more that any other field you could go into. She explained how

she has the ability to impact others with her recommendations and actions. She also

believes its very important to be a role model to others when it comes to nutrition and

health.

Professional advice

The advice she gave to me as an undergraduate dietetics student was to network

as much as possible, be involved in the local academy and shadow dietitians whenever

possible to learn as much as you can. She also highly recommended obtaining a masters

degree. She went on to explain how it has enabled her to advance quicker in the industry
along with earning a higher salary. She also told me to consider a MBA, which is also a

good route dependent on the field I want to go into.

Greatest potential for future job opportunities

When I inquired what area of dieteics does she believe provides the greatest

potential for job opportunities in the future, Deanna Wolfe said the corportate wellness,

retail dietitics, such as supermarkets, supplement research and/or sales, diabetes

edcuation, especially with pharmaceutical companies and consulting for business

communications companies as well as nutrition communicatons.

Competition in the Dietetics Field

When I asked how competitive it is in the Dietetics field, she said she believes

there is so much variety and availability in the dietetics field that competition is not a

huge issue. She said as long as I have a passion to help and work with people, and have

knowledge in the field along with organiztion skills, I should have no problem obtaining

a job in the dietetics field.

Personal Philosophy

Her philosophy is that she enjoys translating the science of nutrition into reliable

and reallistic advice to help others lead a healthier, more fulfilling life. She strives to
inspire and motivate others to achieve their own health and fittness goals while living a

lifestyle full of balance.

In conclusion, after interviewing Deanna Wolfe I have become even more excited

about the many different areas I can go into, and to learn as much as I can to pursue my

career in the dietitics field.
