ART DRAWING USING MULTIMEDIA

TECHNOLOGY

Q1 INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, there are tremendous of 2D animation, 3D animation, cartoon, comic, graphic design,
video games design and arts that visualize and colorize this world. All of these criteria is
designed by using multimedia technologies. All of the animation, illustration and design is
basically initiate by a drawing. Before illustrator or designer start an art work, the first step is the
sketching. This is the important step that helps the artist to initiate ideas and as a reference
especially for the drawing using the multimedia technologies because it applies scale and zoom
that possibly effect the result of the art work. The multimedia technologies used is touch pad, pen
display and tablet, stylus and more [1]. The software used is Adobe Photoshop to Autodesk
Mudbox or Corel Painter and also Procreate (for iPad) This technology helps the
productivity, time, and easier the designer to make an art work.

Q3 JUSTIFICATION OF SELECTING THIS TECHNOLOGY
Our group selecting this technology because of interest in art drawing. I also use this technology
to draw portrait, cartoon faces, mind maps, and also notes using iPad mini with Procreate and
Bamboo Paper application. This technology also interesting because this is the tools that
professional designer and animation maker use to create a cartoon, 3D animation, manga, anime
even in professional graphic editing and design. Many of people does not realize the existing of
this technology. It is interesting and important to know about the making of the art work. Every
great art work need a detail and complex work to create. After determine the production of all of
this art, we know how amazing and awesome it is. Besides that, we can know the talented artist
and the technologies gadgets used by them.

Q6 Briefly explain the recent technologies listed in Q5
Wacom
The first technologies of the drawing tools are Wacom. Wacom is a worlds leading
manufacturer of pen tablets, interactive pen displays and tablets and stylus. This is used by
customer to create some of the most exciting digital art, films, special effects, fashion and
product designs [1]. There are various of product developed by Wacom categorized by the
function. For Pen displays, the latest products are Cintiq Companion 2, Cintiq 27QHD touch and
more screen size (below) available. For Pen tablets, the latest products are Intuos and Intuos Pro.
This Pen tablets also have many versions which are Intuos Draw, Intuous Art, Intuos Photo, and
Intuos Comic that have their own specialities. Wacom also produce Stylus for iPad and other
smartphones, tablets which is Bamboo Fineline 2, Bamboo Solo, and Bamboo Duo. For mobile
accessories, Bamboo spark is a current product from Wacom that can convert your hand
writing to a digital form. Bamboo Spark is a smart folio with a smart ballpoint pen, and a spot
for your favorite paper. It lets you write by hand, and saves your handwritten notes locally or
within the cloud for editing, archiving and accessing anywhere [1].

Apple iPads
Some Artist and designer also use iPad as an art drawing technologies because of the Procreate
application that only available for iOS. Procreate is a professional drawing and design
software. The latest version is Procreate 3 that will be launch together with iPad Pro in this
November. This new version is designed for iPad Pro with 12.9. The maximum of the canvases
size is up to 8K resolutions (8192 x 8192px) [4] [1]. iPad Pro is announced and will be available
in this November. The new technology of this device is a pressure sensitive touch that perfectly
what artist and designer need. With the most powerful chip A9X third generation chip 64-bit
desktop-class architecture this iPad can process 22x CPU performance and 360x GPU
performance. This indeed will render a smooth graphic when using a graphic design software.
The iPad Pro will come with new iPencil with pixel-perfect precision, sensitive to bolt tilt and
pressure that allow from thinnest line to subtle shading [3].

Q7 Compare the recent technologies details in Q6- specification,

The comparison of the Wacom and Apple is with the latest and powerful device, for Wacom is
Cintiq 27QHD touch and Apple is iPad Pro. But Cintiq 27QHD touch need a connection with
another computer (windows) or iMac (Mac OS X). The comparison is made in table below.

Q8 ADVANTAGES OF RECENT TECHNOLOGIES

This technology has increase the productivity, innovation, creativity of the art work. Drawing
using technology helps the artist and designer to produce an art work faster. With various of tools
that the software and application such as, crop, resizing, layers layout, undo and redo easier to a
designer to finish an art work faster. The artist and designer can correct every step drawn by
using undo. Mistake can be prevented by using layer layout because the recent layer without
effecting other layer.
The export file can be in various format such JPEG, PNG, PSD and more. This file is easily can
be shared and transferred in media and over the cloud. This easier to duplicate the art work and
edit for future use.
Q9 DISADVANTAGES OF RECENT TECHNOLOGIES
The disadvantage is it is digital. Analog is the real world. Art drawing and painting is originally
great with using pencil, color pencil, water color, oil paste, brush, color plate and drawing pad.
The recent technologies make all of this tools became traditional and rarely used by artist and
designer. However, due to the technology needs, world need to move on. Because it is digital, it
required electricity and batteries to work. The recent technology like Cintiq 27QHD and iPad Pro
is too expensive to buy.
The digital art work is easily to be transferred and shared in media. This featured also have
disadvantage which the copyright of the artist and designer is easily to be copied. This copyright
then can be easily edit by anyone using the recent software technology.
Q10 FUTURE TECHNOLOGY
In this recent decade, technology is growing fast and widely. It is hard to predict what in future,
but the resolution and the pixels of the screen is becoming bigger and bigger. Latest screen
resolution is 4K and 8K. This number will be growing fast because all companies are racing to
lead the worlds technologies. Resolution and pixels are related to the graphic rendering. The
higher resolution, the higher graphic performance needed. In future, the graphic card also will be
developed with the requirement of the performance and resolution because the video games
required more graphic performance compared to graphic design and animation. The pressure-
sensitivity and the precision of the pen will also be improved. Maybe there will be air brush and
air drawing. The tools of the software and application will be increase and updated. Lastly, the
most advance will be in future technology is the real 3D drawing using holograms. The
holograms are visualized in Iron Man movies as the figure 3 below. Hence, if the hologram will
be in future, there will be a 3D drawing using hologram.
