Background
AlgaVida has acquired exclusive license from SINTEF TTO

of b-glucan from diatoms
after discovering that the 20

The Algae & the Product Segments
Poultry feed
Pig feed
Horse feed
Dog feed
Name Chaetoceros muelleri
Conclusions:
The plant will be very profitable at 10% of World b-Glucan market scale
Exploiting waste or cheap resources is expected to improve profitability
Increasing demand of immuno-stimulants for pharmaceutics add to this

Norwegian medium size production depend
on closed and artifical light PBR

Conclusions of the PBR technology tests
make GemTubes likely choice for Norway
PHOTO-BIORECTOR TECHNOLOGY- AlgaVida AS and LGem B.V.
Although Chaetoceros mlleri is senstive to shear stress it thrives with the
GemTube design, which is radically different from conventional tube PBRs:
Mixed gas and liquid phase avoid horizontal gradients and oversaturation of gases
Air-mediated liquid transport radically reduces energy for pumping and shear stress
Mass transfer for nutrients uptake is very effective due to rolling waves in the tubes
Cell density by microscopy at comparable incident light level matches the
hanging bag cultures when stationary phase is reached after 8 days
Silicate depletion due to low solubility is a problem only during batch growth
and should not happen during semi-continous growth
Observed productivity allow closed mass production in commercial scale
already at 125 mol/m2/s daylight; we now will test even higher levels

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY - AlgaVida AS:
Why not join a winning team in time?
Production of b-1.3,1.6-glucans with PUFAs as secondary
product is profitable in the medium scale of 60 T DW/yr
With Norwegian labour costs, hydro-electricity prices, artificial
fertilizers, silicate and salt water - and climatic conditions; and
With artifical-light year-around production in a dedicated factory
setting a high level of product quality control can be reached; but
It becomes a WINNER for both climate and economy with biobased
energy for heat and electricity, and nutrients re-generated on site
We have decided to move into Phase 3 in 2016: Building
our 1000 m2 Diatom Factory just here by the Oslo Fjord!
