COURSE REQUIREMENTS IN INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM 1

A group of five (5) students must be able to attend the hearing/processing of the following components
of the CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM:

1. LUPON NG TAGAPAMAYAPA:

The group must choose a barangay where they can observe its hearing/conduct of the Katarungang
Pambarangay;
The group must personally attend in the conduct/hearing of the Lupon in any of the following criminal cases
falling under the jurisdiction of the Katarungang Pambarangay or such other criminal cases actually heard in the
barangay chosen by the group:

Alarms and Scandals


Use of False Certificates
Concealing One’s True Name and Other Personal Circumstances
Physical Injuries Committed in a Tumultuous Affray
Slight Physical Injuries and Maltreatment
Other Forms of Trespasses
Other Light Threats
Other Light Coercion or Unjust Vexation

The group should request to have a photocopy of the following:

Complaint
Summon
Certificate of Repudiation
Certificate of Conciliation/Settlement

Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Chairman of the Lupon specifying thereto the crime subject of the
repudiation/conciliation/amicable settlement.

2. POLICE

The group must choose a police station where they can observe the conduct of criminal investigation or in the
processing of a suspect;
The group must personally attend in the conduct of criminal investigation or in the process of a suspect;
The group should request to have a photocopy of the following:

Affidavit of complainant
Affidavit of witness for complainant
Application for search warrant
Blotter
Initial Investigation Report
Follow-Up Investigation Report
Final Investigation Report
Invitation/Summon

Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Chief of Police in the city or municipality chosen specifying
thereto the crime subject of the investigation.

3. PROSECUTION

The group must choose a Prosecution Office (City/Provincial) where they can observe the conduct of
preliminary investigation and inquest proceedings;
The group must personally attend in the conduct of preliminary investigation and inquest proceedings;
The group should request to have a photocopy of the following:

Complaint
Information
Affidavit of complainant
Affidavit of witness for complainant
Affidavit of witness for respondent
Counter-Affidavit
Subpoena
Resolution of Preliminary Investigation
Resolution of Inquest

Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the prosecutor (City or Provincial) specifying thereto the crime
subject of the preliminary investigation.
Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the prosecutor (City or Provincial) specifying thereto the crime
subject of the inquest.

4. COURT

The Court may be Municipal Trial Court (MTC), Municipal Trial Court in the City (MTCC), Municipal Circuit
Trial Court (MCTC) or Regional Trial Court (RTC);
The group must personally attend in the conduct of the arraignment, pre-trial, trial & promulgation;
The group should request to have a photocopy of the following:

Search Warrant
Warrant of Arrest
Decision to Post Bail
Judgment of conviction
Judgment of acquittal

Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Clerk of Court specifying thereto the crime subject of the
ARRAIGNMENT.
Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Clerk of Court specifying thereto the crime subject of the PRE-
TRIAL.
Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Clerk of Court specifying thereto the crime subject of the TRIAL.
Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Clerk of Court specifying thereto the crime subject of the
PROMULGATION.

5. CORRECTIONS

The group should go to a city, municipal or provincial jail.


The group should request to have a photocopy of the following:

Mittimus or Commitment Order


Prison Population – specifying the number of the following: a. male adult b. female adult c. male minor d.
female minor
Program of Rehabilitation

5.3 Certificate of Appearance duly signed by the Jail Warden.

DEADLINE OF SUBMISSION

1. The group must submit the requirements under a particular component of the Criminal Justice
System on or before the deadline of submission. Otherwise, a five-point deduction per day shall be
imposed upon those submitting their requirements beyond the deadline of submission.
2. If the requirements are submitted more than seven (7) days from deadline of submission, the group
can only obtain Fifty Percent (50%) of the highest possible score. E.g. if the highest possible score is
100, then the group can only obtain a score of 50.
3. FAILURE to SUBMIT these course requirements will be given an INCOMPLETE GRADE.
