Bad roads keep me from travelling to suburbs

I don't travel to the suburbs on Saturdays and Sundays. It is impossible to

travel, He made the remarks while heading a division bench with Justice C V
Bhadang, which was hearing a petition by private tourist bus operators who have
their offices at Sitaram building near Crawford Market. They moved court last week
after a police crackdown on their buses on D N Road and Palton Road for halting and
causing traffic congestion and obstruction to pedestrians.

While hearing the matter, the bench made an observation about the state of the
roads. All roads are dug up. The situation is very bad. It is advisable not to travel in
the evenings on Saturdays and Sundays, It also batted for pedestrian rights. There
is no one to take up the cause of pedestrians.Hawkers have taken over most of the
roads, said Justice Kanade, adding that this is a city of professionals who are not
bothered about these things.

He thereafter spoke of how he avoids travel on weekends.

In their petition, bus opera tors said that after a ban on plying buses in south
Mumbai was lifted recently , cops began to crack down on them. They filed FIRs
against drivers, including under the Indian Penal Code Section 149 for unlawful
assembly . The petition said Section 149 pre-supposes that people assemble with
the in tention of committing crime, and passengers are only interested in boarding
the buses. It further said that the entire exercise is to prevent buses coming to
south Mumbai by resorting to filing false FIRs.

Their advocate argued that halting buses for picking about 10 passengers can
never cause obstruction to pedestrians and traffic and can never lead to a law and
order problem. But the government advocate, said, At a time, 40 to 150 buses are
parked on the streets, which causes a tremendous traffic jam and problems for
movement of vehicles and the public.
