Competitors and Market Research

There arent many movies that have the same sort of storyline to mine. Looking at
competitors, I found that the only movie that you could really compare to mine is the film I
Spit on your Grave, as it has a similar type of storyline with
the idea of a girl who gets kidnapped and tied up and raped
by the guys who have kidnapped her, but she manages to
escape and she returns to get her revenge on them and she
kills them brutally. This is the only film with a similar
storyline and features that mine has, with the girl getting
molested and then gets her revenge on her attackers and
kills them. However, the genre of this film is more of a
horror, which distinguishes this one to mine, as the murder
scenes in this movie are gorier because it is a horror.
However, the murder scenes in my film wont be as visual
and gory because it is a crime thriller, so it will focus more
on the storyline and the meanings of it, etc. rather than
having an exciting, gory murder scene.
However, another competitor that I looked at which has the same idea as my film was Eden
Lake. This film is classed as a slasher/ thriller, as it is about a couple who go to the beach
and a group of young teenagers come there too and make a lot of noise so the man goes to
ask them to be more quiet. The teens take the couples beach
bag with their wallet and car keys in, etc. and then they
seriously hurt the man but the girl gets away and tries to find
help. This film has a similar idea to mine, but without the girl
getting molested. However, it still has the idea of the girl
getting her revenge on the group of teenage boys.
There havent really been any types of movies that have the
same sort of storyline as mine. A few movies were created in
the 1980s, such as Ms .45,and Extremities , but after that it
wasnt really until 2010 when I Spit on your Grave came out.
This movie is probably the most similar film to my movie than
any other. Therefore, I think this is what makes my film
unique because there arent many movies with this particular
type of storyline, where the girl is first represented as the
weak character, whilst the man is seen as superior, but then she gets her revenge on the
male characters. I also think that, as this is a crime/ thriller it would appeal to a larger
audience rather than if it was a horror it might not appeal to such a large audience. A lot of
people enjoy a thrill, that adrenaline rush and the edge-of-your-seat feeling, compared to
horrors with jump-scares and gore, etc. as not everyone could handle or even enjoy a
horror.
