American Psychological Association, Feb. 2001. Web. 08 Feb. 2017.

This journal article discusses that depression and suicide are rapidly increasing in college

students around the world. Also, another focus point is that depression can ultimately lead

to suicidal attempts depending on the student. There are also statistics of the suicide rate

of college students in this journal article. The authors predict that depression typically

occurs around the time of midterms and final exams. This source helped me get a better

understanding of how many students are diagnosed with depression in a school semester.

Hammen, Connstance L. "Depression in college students: Beyond the Beck Depression

Inventory." Pardon Our Interruption. US: American Psychological Association, 29 Mar. 2006.
Web. 11 Feb. 2017.
In this article thirty-four college students took a survey to see their level of depressed.

The results came back that they were all moderately depressed. Many of the students had

been diagnosed with major and minor depressive disorders. I thought that it was

interesting that they decided to conduct a study rather than just talk about the statistics. It

gave me a better visual of how one can never know that they are depressed until they are

tested.

dysfunctional attitudes, and social support. Union, NJ: Kean College of New Jersey, 1991.
Print.
This book expresses how stressful life events and traumatic events during a young adults

college semester may lead to depression. Also, that most college students are not

supported thoroughly while going through a depression phase. Majority of college

students do not know the symptoms of depression. Dysfunctional attitudes may also be a

symptom of depression. Overall, this book was informative about the various causes of

depression in college students.

to seek help.

This article discusses how depression is become a higher risk in college students. USA

Today also discusses statistics that explain how many students were diagnosed with

depression while in college. Even though this is source was a news article it was

interesting hearing different opinions of the topic. This source was helpful because the
statistics given gave me a clear understanding of the severity of depression in college

students. USA Today stated many beneficial factors in their article.
