Purpose

The purpose of this memo is to present an internal proposal for an application on Guidebook
pertaining to the University of Daytons Davis Center for Portfolio Managements orientation
weekend. I will be working with the Davis Center Portfolio Management over the next few
weeks to compile research, information and dates to help the center improve efficiency in
operations and also reach out to the community. The application is due on April 24.

Need Analysis

Client

My client is the Davis Center for Portfolio Management which needs assistance in spreading the
word for this years orientation. The Davis Center for Portfolio Management is a group of 53
business majors on campus that invests $24 million of the University of Daytons endowment.
The application will not only improve efficiency in the Davis Center but will also help to keep
the faculty and staff of the business school informed.

Event

At the beginning of each school year, the Davis Center for Portfolio Management holds an
orientation weekend to establish goals for the semester, recap major events from the summer
within the field of finance, and also to gain knowledge through research and professional
speakers. This app would allow the Davis Center to better coordinate their schedule and also help
guest speakers and faculty that assist the orientation program. The orientation lasts three days at
the end of each summer, and will be held on August 18th through the 21st in Miriam Hall at the
University of Dayton. The event will last from roughly 9am to 3pm on each day. The event will
roughly have 80 participants that include faculty, guest speakers and Davis Center team
members. The ages of the attendees will range from 19-70, with majority being in their early 20s.

Benefit

The benefit to this application will be efficiency. Each year that the Davis Center has this event
there is some sort of scheduling error, conflict or inefficiency. Currently, the event is only
disclosed through email which is problematic because not all students use emails on a consistent
basis and are often not up to date. This application will be working directly with students and
will provide a clear cut schedule and provide all available learning opportunities throughout the
weekend and will be available for faculty and staff outside of the Davis Center. Ultimately, the
application will save time for current members and also provide information to improve
performance and learning ability throughout the weekend.

Project Plan

The following information will detail exactly how I will complete the project by April 24 and
how I will have a positive impact on my clients event that is scheduled.

Task Analysis

In this project there will be four main phases

Meet with Professor Li

On April 12 at 1:00pm in St. Joseph Hall I will meet with you and discuss this
report and hopefully attain your approval. From that point forward I will make
any minor changes that you deem necessary and I will begin my research process.

Research
I will then interview 3-5 Davis Center members regarding how the orientation
process could be improved by such an application. Some of the questions will be
regarding past orientations, information discussed at orientation, and overall the
effectiveness of an application such as this one. This will help me gain a better
understanding of the problem from multiple vantage points and create a better
product. These interviews will be taking place in the Davis Center on April 17-18.

I will then interview the acting manager and present him with the idea and also
the research I have gathered from my first interview. The active managers name
is Steven Stahl and he is a senior at the University of Dayton. I will be
interviewing him next Wednesday. I will hope to find more insight on how to
perfect the product and provide efficiency moving forward.

Throughout the process I will be conducting my own personal research. I have

already started to compile information including schedules from years past and
have reached out to past managers. By attaining past schedules, I will now be able
to analyze the general format for this year and can use this in my interviews with
the Davis Center colleagues.

Analyzation and conclusion of research

This part of the research will be fairly simple. I will compile all of my research
and come up with the best way to present it to my clients and audience. This will
ideally be done by next Thursday, April 20.

Develop application

On April 20th I will be begin developing the application. I will research and
analyze applications from the past and come up with a design that is simple to
read but still fits the standards of the Davis Center. This process will culminate in
a final product and presentation on April 24.

Work Schedule
Qualifications

I am qualified to present on this topic for a few main reasons:

4 year member of the Davis Center
Experience with creating websites and presentation
Honors Student
Organized and efficient

Resources

My main resources will include the computer, the Davis Center for Portfolio Management and
lastly the connections that I have made with the members of the organization. I will complete the
application and majority of the research on the computer. Being a part of the Davis Center for
four years will allow me to connect with the individuals for the interviews and also ask effective
questions that will provide valuable information I can use in my application.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I am seeking your approval to create a guidebook app for the University of
Daytons Davis Center for Portfolio Managements orientation weekend for the 2017-2018
school year. This report will allow members to be up-to-date on all information regarding the
event and allow the members to allocate more of their time to the learning process. This
application will also allow faculty and staff to see the current events of the Davis Center and
invite them to our functions throughout the weekend.
