THE IMPORTANCE

OF SCHOOL

ACTIVITIES
I. Introduction

School activities are very important for both students and teachers. School Activities are

a great way for students of different grade and section to get to one another and bond.

Each event can bring something new out of a person, especially for a student. Each event

can bring out excitement for everyone because even if they know and experienced the

event before, they will always think about What if it will be different, since no one will

know what will happen. It can also help a student learn more on teamwork, friendship,

time management, and the ability to multitask. School events can help identify if a

student likes or dislikes certain parts of the event and it will definitely help a teacher

identify if his/her student is either proficient with the sport, task, etc. and it can help a

student discover new things and hidden talents with himself/herself.

II. Related Literature

Developing leadership skills is another important result of children participating I n after-

school programs. The Boys and Girls Club study revealed that 82% of teens in the

program took part in leadership roles such as student council, being in charge of

activities or assisting in the office. There are also opportunities for volunteering and

attending conferences in areas your child is interested in. Joining in activities like these

will set your child up for success in the future because theyll learn good work habits

needed for college and the professional world. (Ashley Pham, 2014)

Chicago public school principals said that a fund-raising drive to save high school

extracurricular activities, including sports, was so successful that the events no longer

face the threat of cancellation at 65 high schools. So far, $865,000 has been raised with

major donations from the Chicago Sun-Times, Nike, two local radio stations and the

Bulls' Michael Jordan. (From Staff and Wire Reports, 1992)

Extracurricular activities serve the same goals and functions as the

required and elective courses in the curriculum. However, they provide

experiences that are not included in formal courses of study. They

allow students to apply the knowledge that they have learned in other

classes and acquire concepts of democratic life.(Lunnenburg, 2010)
