CHAPTER I

TITLE DESCRIPTION

1.1. Title

The One-A-Half Resortainment at Karimun Jawa

1.2. Location Plan

Karimun Jawa Islands, Jepara Regency, Jawa Tengah, Indonesia.

1.3. Problem Statements

Located in a tourism area that are developed ongoing, this resort

should have a forceful identity that shows the local knowledge of

surrounding environment. However, it must be balanced with the

combination of modern technology that aims to provide comfort to the

visitors to the resort.

Surrounding natural conditions will greatly affect the design of the

building. Harmonize with nature and their natural utilization is emphasized

in the design of The One-A-Half Resortainment. The design will maximize

the potential of the natural surroundings very much. Therefore, the structure

system will also be the main things to be considered, so that the building

does not harm / damage the natural potential.

This sustainable building projects mainly focusing in the electrical

energy supply. As already known that Karimun Jawa islands are only have

a supply of electricity from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. It is an important issue that

needs to be resolved, so that the building can provide comfort in terms of

activities of its visitors, without having to rely much on the power supplied

by the local government.

More specifically, the design issues that will confront this futuristic

building project is about building structure; how the building can survive in

two worlds, land and water. The structure solving should be considered

carefully, so that the life span of the building is not only temporary but

permanent. Therefore, the sophistication of the technology and innovation

of materials development is needed in designing The One-A-Half

Resortainment.

Another problem in facing the building with two functions is of course

about spatial building solution. Clearly explained, a resort has a private

nature of that activity, while an entertainment will facilitate the activities of

which are public. These issues will be an interesting thing to be appointed

and resolved into an outstanding design.

CHAPTER II

BACKGROUNDS

2.1. Initial Idea

Until now, Karimun Jawa islands doesnt have an accommodation

facilities that provide maximum comfort in the activities movement.

Therefore, a new design strategy will be used in designing this project. The

existence of building a resort with full facilities will become a landmark for

the surrounding region. Completeness of the facility will be an attraction for

tourists, without disturbing the existing buildings around it, both morally and

materially.

The resort is located in coastal areas, where the target visitors are

higher-level society. The form of the resort is not a single building, but more

to building complex. There is one main building and several secondary

buildings. The main building is the reference to the secondary buildings

scattered on the location of the resort. In other words, visitors can directly

see the main building as the focal point of the resort. The main building and

secondary buildings are given special treatment such as shapes, colors,

and different characters to differentiate the identity of the building.

The facilities of The One-A-Half Resortainment are :

First building as the entertainment facilities that can be

enjoyed by public, of course with very beautiful underwater

panorama.
Secondary buildings as the accommodation facilities for the

visitors, it is separated into private area.

Thalassotherapy as the main entertainment facility of the

resort

( Thalassotherapy : Utilize seawater for spa )

Restaurant, caf, lounge, etc.
Gym, pool, massage.
Hall
Service area
And another supporting facilities

The design of the resort will be integrated with the environment,

because the mass placements are response to the coastal areas and the

sea. Mass of the building will be made partly on land and partly in the

water. The building on the land will be the main criterion of existing

buildings in the water.

Private vehicles cant enter the area of the resort. Visitors will utilize

the path or electric cars for their mobility in the resort complex. This is done

to maintain the cleanliness of the air in the resort.

The interior of the building will utilize natural materials that exist in

the surrounding environment. The rest, it will use the modular

manufacturing materials that already exist on the market. Besides being

able to reduce the cost of construction, the use of the modular concept will

also contribute to reduction of waste building materials that cant be used.

The One-A-Half Resortainment is expected to be nominated as "Green

Building" by GBCI.

This project will refer more to the provision required by GBCI and not

to ecological building. Its because the scope of GBCI is wider than

ecological building. As example, The One-A-Half Resortainment will not

remove air conditioner to be ecological, but more to how the building

alternate energy from natural resource without depends on Governments

electricity supply.

2.2. Reason and Motivation

Data obtained from Jepara District Tourism Department shows that

the number of lodging facilities in Karimun Jawa is not comparable to the

number of tourists who come to stay. On holidays (especially on high-

season), the entire inn in Karimun Jawa are always full. Even some tourists

stay in homes due to lack of places to stay in entire tourist destinations in

Karimun Jawa. The inn and homestay in Karimun Jawa still cover middle to

lower level of society, they are not covering the necessity of upper-level of

society. Another consideration which proves that Karimun Jawa needs more

resort that facilitating the visitors is about the inadequate electricity there. It

creates a new paradigm of sustainable resort; provides electricity without

fuel.

Based on the considerations above, the need for the construction of

an sustainable resort in Karimun Jawa is very urgent. A resort with a upper

level society targets for domestic travelers or even internationally, should be

immediately held. It is remembering the potential of nature that is in

accordance with the concept of the resort as a facilitation of entertainment

and recreation.

It's time for Karimun Jawa develops. However, due to the

development of architecture and infrastructure there are very slow, the

enhancement number of tourists are not comparable to the amount of

existing facilities. The need for resorts as accommodation facilities as well

as entertainment to be built for the tourists would be the priority for the

tourism area which is on the rise.

Society's interest to the nature is very high. This is evidenced by the

WTO (World Tourism Organization) which predicts that in 2020,

approximately 1.6 million people of the world will travel abroad, including

Asia as the main destination. PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) states

that the 3,615,739 people came to Indonesia in 2006. In 2007, that number

increased to 4,109,831 people. It shows that the number of tourists in

Indonesia increased by approximately 13.7% per year. If it continued and

not matched by the development of facilities / tourism facilities, of course it

would be unbalanced and even actually impact on the economy and the

tourism industry in Indonesia.

The relevancy between needs, interests, and urgency above makes

Karimun Jawa increasingly convinced that their tourism industry will be

developed much through The One-A-Half Resortainment. Relevance of of

architecture, economics, natural potential, as well as human resources

included in the One-A-Half Resortainment will provide a very positive

impact for the progressive development of the whole island of Karimun

Jawa.

2.3. Goals and Objectives

The goals of The One-A-Half Resortainment are :

Equip facilities, facilities and tourism infrastructure in the Karimun

Jawa.
Creating a different resort atmosphere with a new concept.
Responding to the lack of existing accommodation facilities on

Karimun Jawa islands.

Provide a forum for the community (especially upper-level class of

society) to travel with maximum comfort.

Creating energy taken from the nature to supply the electricity needs

of the building.

And the objectives of this project are definitely :

The society both national and international (foreign tourists) who

want to travel and stay.

The tourists who love the sea panorama; this is where they can feel

the atmosphere of the underwater at any time without having to dive

and wet because of sea water.

2.4. Benefits to be Achieved

A good quality resort surely will have a positive impact to all scopes of life.

The One-A-Half Resortainment have practical benefits that will be explained below

Provide a new knowledge about the latest technology of the building.

Similarly, in terms of occupancy, The One-A-Half Resortainment will

continue to involve members of the community to contribute from the

beginning of the resort development to the implementation later, resulting in

a maximization of human resources.

With the presence of the One-A-Half Resortainment, the name of

Karimun Jawa islands will be lifted and well-known because of the

development of tourism facilities provided. By doing so, the surrounding

community will be more prosperous because of the development of tourists

who come to visit the island of Karimun Jawa.

Benefits to the tourists
The One-A-Half resortainment create a new paradigm of a resort, a

different meaning of a resort. The moment theyve got will not just being a

mere memory, but still can be felt onwards after they return to their

respective places. This is because the One-A-Half resortainment have

different ways to package a tourism product.

Benefits to the country

Of course, the more amount of the tourist (both local and foreign)

came to Karimun Jawa, the higher the country's foreign exchange obtained.

With the high foreign exchange, the country's economy will be better

anyway. Therefore, no doubt that The One-A-Half Resortainment indirectly

contribute to improving the economy of Indonesia for the future.

In addition to the practical benefits, there are academic benefits to be

achieved by adding the knowledge and insight to the community of a modern

accommodation facilities. This is useful for accelerating the development of

society in the future.

CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

3.1. Data Collection Methods

The Data Collection method done is either primary or directly and

supporting data or secondary data that will be doneis done indirectly.

Primary data were obtained from the collection of information, interviews

and surveys directly to the relevant location. In this case, the observation is

done by collecting data in the form of photographs, natural quality data, as

well as statistical data obtained from the department of tourism and another

statistical office of the area.

To support the creation of a good-quality design, there is a

secondary data from the literature study and Internet about what is the

meaning of the project; scope and limitation of the project related to the

quality and quantity of the building and its relevancy to design a building in

accordance with the project title.

3.2. Analysis Methods

inductive method are used in compiling and analyzing, which the

process of comparing and making a general overview of benefits, facilities,

activities and a comparative study was concretely made. The background in

using this method is because inductive method is able to find the fact that

the complex contained in the data. Another reason is because inductive

method can provide advice in decide something.

With this method, it is expected the understanding of similar projects

relating to the title of the project can be better, so that the design of the

building will have a planning program that is arranged in a rapid and

detailed document.

3.3. Programming Methods

Programming is a process where an architect should change the facts

into the data. In the process of programming One-A-Half resortainment, the

method used are refers to the programming method invented by William Pena,

where formulation involves the following five steps:

CHAPTER IV

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

4.1. Terminology

The One-A-Half is an amalgamation of things that are 'two-in-

one ". This is interpreted through design form that refers to the

combination of architectural vernacular and post-modern style. In

addition, The One-A-Half also can be interpreted as something that is

half on land, the other half is in the oceans; can also mean that the

building is half are above the waterline, the other half being below the

water surface.

The word One-A-Half cannot be changed by anything due to

the meaning has several combinations of actions. Amphibious is a part

of the building concept.

"Resortainment" is a merger between the word "Resort" and

"Entertainment" which means a place that provides entertainment

resort facilities at the same place.

Resort is a change of residence for a while for someone outside

their homes with the purpose, among others, to get the freshness of

mind and body as well as the desire to know something. Can also be

associated with interests related to sports activities, health,

Resort is a place frequented by people for relaxation or

Entertainment is everything - either in the form of words,

places, objects, behavior - which can be an entertainer or consolation

heart hard or sad. In general entertainment can include music, movies,

opera, drama, or even a game of sport. Trips can also be regarded as

an attempt to explore the nature of entertainment or cultural study. Fill

leisure time activities such as making crafts, skills, reading can also be

categorized as entertainment (Source: The Oxford English Dictionary,

Karimunjawa is an archipelago in the Java Sea, Indonesia,

approximately 83 kilometres northwest of Jepara. The island name

means a stones throw from Java in Javanese. The main island is

also known as karimun. Stands from 27 islands, this mini archipelago

became marine national park and its like a treasure for those who

love marine life. Here can be found protected coral reefs (very colorful

plateaus and plains in deep and shallow waters), secluded and

tranquil white beaches, pelican and hornbill, sea grass and kinds of

sea creatures, from crabs, anchovy, starfish, sharks, stingray, jellyfish,

4.2. Project Specification

The One-A-Half Resortainment realized on a separate complex

of buildings with different functions that are accommodation and

entertainment facilities. Two things are obviously very different if the

nature of its activities, which are public and private.

4.2.1. Functions and Activities Grouping

Judging from its function, resorts and entertainment

facilities have very different types of activities. Therefore, the

space as a forum for ongoing activities should also be

separated. In this case certainly occur indirectly interrelation

between the activities carried out in the resort with activities

carried out in entertainment facilities.

4.2.2. Actors Grouping

In the implementation, the staff cannot distinguish the

visitors who spend the night / stay at The One-A-Half

Resortainment with visitors who simply take advantage of the

entertainment facilities only, or even just to look around.

Therefore, accessibility separator should occur to separate the

Recognizing the importance of insight and knowledge will be a resort,

then review the kind of resort project is indispensable. Therefore, the planned

visit to the resort to the following locations:

Bayfront Villa, Jepara

Is a resort located on the edge of the Gulf coast Awur with sea

views and Panjang Island. The resort has a tropical landscape garden,

swimming pool, mini lakes, as well as a restaurant serving

1000 Amphibious, Qatar
This modern resort built in protected areas in Qatar.

Amphibious project designed by Giancarlo Zema 1000 Design Group,

is building a floating semi-dive, because half of the building is located

on the surface of bodies of water, and the other half are below the

water surface. In the living room is made salient 3 meters down with

walls made of glass so that visitors can enjoy the sea without having

to dive.

CHAPTER V

FEASIBILITY OF LOCATION

5.1. Definitive Location

Related to the region, suitable regency for The One-A-Half

Resortainment is a district which tourism potential is growing rapidly at

the moment. It would be more appropriate if the project site is located

in a growing area that is trying to improve the infrastructure and

facilities in it. With the presence of the One-A-Half Resortainment, it is

confirmed that the area will be raised and helped to grow more rapidly

in all areas.

5.2. Alternative Location

The selected location is Karimun Jawa which administratively a

part of northern Jepara. As explained earlier that this region is growing

especially in terms of tourism potential.

Karimun Jawa district are planned to be a great tourism area by

the government. It was proved on RTRW ( Rencana Tata Ruang

Wilayah) of Jepara Regency from 2011 2031.

The suitable location of the project will support the success of The

One-A-Half Resortainment. The choice of location is based on the quantity of

visitors and the quality of nature that exist in the existing area. Here is the

best option the project site

Tanjung Gelam Beach

Located on the headland to the west of the island of Karimun,

the coast of Gelam beach have exotic and charming scenery, also

on the potential of coral reefs. The origin of the name is due to its

position gelam headland at the end of Karimun Java and it is

perfect place to enjoy the sunset, then comes the promontory

gelam name, this location is selected by the local community to

celebrate karimunjawa routine ceremonial feast Lomban (a week

Located in the east part of Karimun island, Barakuda beach has a

very beautiful scenery. This beach are famous with its sloping

coconut tree. The sands are white with its beautiful coral reefs.
