Reading a brief
In this report I shall we looking at previous work I have done and analysing how I have met
the requirements of the brief. I will be looking at Unit 54 assignment 2 along with Unit 34
assignment 2 and demonstrating how I met each individual aspect of the brief.

Unit 54 assignment 2:
This Is the brief I received for Unit
54 Assignment 2. The first page
contains the scenario along with
some of the tasks I have to
complete in the unit, the second
page contains all of the individual
headings I have to complete on
certain tasks such as the
Proposal. Below that are possible
sources for the assignment.

Demands/Requirements of the brief:

When we were given the brief we also had a
talk with the client where they gave us
certain specifications that we had to achieve
whilst working on this assignment. On the
right is a screenshot of the notes I took
during the client meeting. I took these notes
so I could go back and check on them through the assignment so I could easily tell if I was
meeting the client/briefs demands and requirements. If the meetings we had with the
client was more in depth I could have created more detailed notes, thankfully the notes I
created were enough to complete the task successfully.
At the top of the proposal I created I also had
these notes from the client meeting to show
that I was following the clients instructions.

This is the proposal I created for this assignment, I made sure to cover all of the headings in
detail and to keep on track so I didnt write anything that wasnt relevant to the proposal. As
I was going for the highest grade I made sure to include lots of images and elucidated
examples since this is whats required for the highest grade. Heres the proposal I created:

Proposal

Client meeting:

Had a meeting with the client where we went over the requirements for the graphics. I have saved this meeting so
I can go back and reference the requirements whilst creating the graphics.

Concept:

I have several different ideas I could use for the logo, A3 poster and the DVD cover which would fit well with each other. Despite the name of the band being
The Pixels I wont be using any form of pixels in the designs since that doesnt require any creativity and is the first design idea that comes to peoples minds
when they hear the band name. Instead I will be creating designs that will be interesting and detailed, making them stand out from other simplistic designs.

For the logo of the band it will be normal text but I will be editing it heavily so the different letters are on different orientations and look
3D. I will then be adding a blue glow effect to the letters so the text will stand out on a black background. To make the letters even more
detailed I will be adding hints of colour to them that looks like flowing lava in the letters themselves. I can adjust the colour of this lava
flow through the letters to match the glowing colour of the logo. When I create the logo I will be making it on a canvas size of 1200x500,
this is so the logo is a good size that can be used in different projects but not too large that the file size is ridiculous.

The CD cover will be the conventional size for a CD cover, as seen in the diagram, and will contain the logo for the band, the songs
on the album and other essential information like bare codes and age restrictions. The design for the cover will be similar to the
logo in that it wont have any pixels or pixilation on, instead Im going to create an exploding black hole in space that the logo is
coming out of. On the spine and back cover will be light coming off of the logo along with little stars since its
space. The front cover will only contain this image and the band logo to keep it very minimal, the back cover
will have all of the information on.

For the A3 poster I will use the same design from the front of the CD cover so they match, this includes the logo coming out of the
black hole. The other information on the poster such as tour dates, locations and contact information will be at the bottom of the
poster so its out of the way and doesnt obstruct the logo and background image. The size of this A3 poster will be 42.0 x 29.7cm as
thats the size of a portrait piece of A3 paper. When creating this poster on the computer I will set those dimensions as the canvas
size.

Nature of content:

the computer I will set those dimensions as the canvas size.

Audience usage:

The logo for the Pixels wont be used individually but on other items such as the poster and CD cover. It could also be used on anything else related to the
band if necessary. Because the logo is going to be used in lots of different locations it needs to be suitable for a wide audience of all ages, to make it suitable
for this large audience it will contain no offensive material. The logo doesnt provide the audience with any information its just there to put the bands mark
on something such as the poster or CD cover.

The poster has the most important job of interesting people and getting them to go to a concert or perhaps buy the CD, for this reason it needs to be exciting
to look at and contain as little information as possible so the person isnt bored from reading all the information. The posters will be put around in different
locations so once again just like the logo it mustnt contain any offensive material as it could offend someone passing by, this isnt an issue though as the
poster will be child friendly. A person reading the poster may be interesting in going to a concert, because of this the poster will contain contact information
so they can book or ask any questions that they may have. This contact information will be made very clear on the poster since its vital information.

The CD cover also has an important role of getting a passer-bys attention although this is only relevant if the person hasnt hear the bands music before and
is looking for something new to listen to. If a fan of the band is looking to buy the CD then it doesnt matter as much what it looks like as they will buy it
anyway. On the front of the CD it has the bands logo and a background image, this is because if all the information was on the front it would distract from the
band logo. On the back is all the important information such as the song/s on the CD, the barcode, any legal information and the age rating. To view this
information the person would have had to picked the CD up meaning the front cover has done its job.

Layout designs:

The logo is going to be created on a 1200 x 500 pixel canvas as this will allow me to make it high definition but at the same time keep the file size relatively
small. The layout of the logo is very simplistic since its just text with fancy letters on different orientations.

As the poster is A3 the dimensions will be 42.0 x 29.7cm as thats the size of a portrait piece of A3 paper. When creating this poster on the computer I will set
those dimensions as the canvas size. The layout is very simplistic as the poster doesnt contain that much information. The background of the poster is the
black hole in space with the logo being sucked into it. The logo will be just above the centre of the poster. At the bottom is where all of the information such
as contain number, website link and band details will be. I decided to put all the information at the bottom so its out of the way and doesnt block from the
main feature of the poster which is the logo and the black hole background.

The CD cover for the band will use the conventional measurements as seen in this diagram. When creating the CD cover on
Photoshop I will have the back cover as its own image and then create the front cover and spine together. The layout of the CD
cover will be similar to all other CD covers in that the front is just an image with the bands logo on and all the information is on
the back. The image on the front cover will be the same black hole In space which Is on the poster, the logo then goes over the
top of the background. The background image will wrap around the whole CD cover covering the front, back and spine. On the spine on top of the background
I will have a smaller version of the logo which will be centred. The back cover is where all of the information is located. At the top of the back cover I will have
all of the different song titles found on the CD, these will be in bullet points and well-spaced out. At the bottom of the cover is where things such as the
barcode, age rating, legal information and band information will be located. The reason Im going to keep the front cover free of clutter is so you dont get
distracted from the background image and logo which are supposed to be the main feature on the cover.

Input & manipulation images:

When creating all three separate graphics I wont be using very many external images as I will be able to create everything myself. The only image I wont
create will be the space background found on the poster and CD cover as it would be pointless creating my own. I will be editing this image though by adding
my own little details such as stars and light rays coming out of the centre, I may also edit the hue/saturation. As I will be using the same background image on
the poster and CD cover I will first create the background image and save it as its own file, that way I dont have to worry about the image being the wrong
resolution for either of the assets Ill be creating. It also means I can go back and edit the background image separately if needed. To edit the background
image I will be using Photoshop since thats what the programme is designed to do. I wont be using any other images in the production of my assets as I
should be able to create everything else myself.

Style & tone:

The style of all the assets Im going to create will be si-fi based. The logo will have a blue glow like this tron logo in
the text, I will be making the glow look like a lava flow through the text. For other pieces of text such as the
information found on the CD and poster I will just have normal blue text with a subtle glow effect applied to it so it
matches the logo. The background on all the assets will be relatively dark so the glowing blue text stands out nicely
from it. Ive chosen to go with this style and colour choice because you dont see it very often so my logo, poster and CD cover will stand out from all of the
others. Having a dark background with bright text over the top is also very easy to read and looks excellent when done correctly.

Consideration of limitations:

The programme Im using to create all of my graphics is Adobe Photoshop. This is a very advanced piece of image editing
software that allows you to do pretty much anything you want as long as you know how to. One of the only limitations on
Photoshop is that you cant edit/create Vector graphics using the programme, luckily I dont need that ability as I didnt plan
on making any of the graphics Vectors. The benefit of creating Vector images over Raster images is you can make them as big
as you want and they dont lose any quality since the images arent made up of pixels. I wont be resizing any of my graphics
so the benefit of using a Vector wouldnt be noticed.

Advantages of format:

The advantage of working with Raster images (also known as Bitmaps) is they are easy to edit and can be opened in basically every piece of image editing
software, they are also widely supported on programmes such as Word. The benefit of using a widely supported file format is you dont have to worry about
not being able to open it or edit the image. Raster images also allow you to use a huge range of colours mixed together, this means its very easy to create a
colour gradient as the programme just has to progressively change the colour of pixels from one to another. You cant do this with a Vector graphic as it isnt
made up of pixels so the gradient wouldnt look very smooth. Once Ive completed working on my graphics I will save them all as PNGs. Ive
chosen to use this file format as it supports transparent backgrounds which I will need for my logo as its going to go over the top of my
poster and CD cover. This file format also has a good amount of optimisation which keeps the file sizes relatively small compared to other
formats with less compression. Even though it compresses the images they barely lose any quality which is another advantage.

Deadlines/Schedule:

When I start to create my finished graphics I will be working to a set deadline given to me by the client. To make sure I meet this deadline I will keep track of
my schedule to see how many sessions I have left to create the graphics. If I notice Im behind schedule then I will either have to somehow speed up the
production of the graphics or risk not meeting the deadline. Thankfully I know how to use Photoshop relatively well so wont run into any problems where I

3
James Clayton

get stuck as this could lead to me falling behind schedule. Before I start creating my graphics the client will give me my ILP (Individual learning plan), this is my
schedule that shows me what I should have completed by set times. I will use my ILP to see if Im on track or not.

Conclusion:

Im going to be creating three separate graphics for a band called the Pixels. They have requested I make a logo, A3 poster and a CD cover. All of these will be
created with a Si-fi theme to them as thats what I have chosen to go with. I will be using Photoshop to create all of the graphics as this is the most suitable
programme for the task.

I have met the requirements from the client since I created promotional material for the
band (Logo, A3 Poster, CD cover) I also explained that I would be using Photoshop, just like
the client requested.

Time management:
At the start of this assignment I had been given an
ILP by the client which I would use to keep on track
during the individual tasks. At the end of a session of
working I would write down in the session review
what I had achieved that session, this way I could tell
if I had completed all of the required tasks that
session. If I had completed all of these tasks then I
knew I was on track and would meet the deadline for
the assignment. The advantage of using an ILP
(Individual learning plan) such as this one to keep track of time is you can easily visualise
how much you have done and much you have left. I met all of the individual and final
deadlines given to me by the client which shows I was on track and following their
instructions.

Proposal

Definition of audience

Age:

The age which Change4lifes adverts are aimed at is anywhere from 7-50. I think this is the age their adverts are aimed at because
healthy eating applies to everyone and the way the adverts are constructed means they appeal to everyone no matter what age they
are. The main message behind the advert is that you need to think about what youre eating and how much sugar and fat is in it. This
message is most likely aimed at people over 11 because any younger and they probably wont think about the food they eat.

The advert I will be creating has a younger target audience than the Change4life adverts of 5-11 . Im going to make the advert so it appeals to this age range
because thats what the client asked for but also as its important to teach younger kids to eat healthy so they grow up with the good habit. To make the
advert appeal to this audience I will make the characters look like cartoons as kids will find them more appealing and interesting to watch because they will
feel like theyre just watching a normal cartoon. I will also use bright colours and cheerful music because these too are exciting for kids.

Gender:

The Change4life adverts dont have a target gender because both males and females need to eat healthy. To meet this criteria the
advert uses lots of different colours as you can see in this image. The main colours it uses are also gender neutral such as yellow,
green and white. The two characters are blue and pink which also balance each other out.

The client has asked that I make the advert gender neutral because that way its more effective as it reaches a wider range of people, to do this I will use the
same techniques as Change4life by using neutral colours like yellow and green. I need to think carefully about what activities I have in the advert because
certain sports are associated with certain genders. For example if I was to make the characters play football then it would unbalance the advert, instead I
could make them do something such as running because that isnt associated with a specific gender. One of the benefits of having a target audience of 5-11
year olds is that they arent too bothered about what gender the programme is aimed at as long as they enjoy it. This means I dont have to focus too much
making the animation gender neutral.

Interests/Subject tastes:

To make the advert appeal to as many people as possible Change4life made it so the people in the advert are doing normal
activities such as watching TV and having dinner at the table. If they were to make the characters do different activities like
playing football then It may make the advert less popular as only people who enjoy football would really pay attention. The food
in the advert is also very popular, in some scenes theyre eating chocolate and pizza as their unhealthy food and in the scene
where they switch to healthy food theyre eating a roast dinner. Almost everyone has had that type of food sometime in their
life which means they can relate to the advert.

For my healthy animation Im going to have the characters eat unhealthy foods such as Pizza just like they did in the Change4life advert because Pizza is eaten
all over the world. They will also be drinking fizzy drinks such as Coca Cola which are also popular all around the world which means people watching can
relate to it. For the healthy food I will have the characters eat vegetables and drink homemade smoothies because once again vegetables are eaten all around
the world so people can relate to them. The activities I will have in the advert are going to be outdoor sports such as running. I chose to use running instead of
something else such as Football because lots of people do running and so can relate to it. It also means I can have the characters race on a track which is more
interesting to watch than some people playing football.

Viewing context

YouTube:

With less and less people watching television they are now turning to sites such as YouTube to meet their entertainment needs.
Companies such as Change4Life are trying to make the most out of this by creating channels on these websites and using them
to post their videos because its free. This video here was an advert that was shown on TV in 2013 but is now on YouTube for
anyone to watch. Change4Life could have also ran this advert on YouTube in 2013 along with having it on television. Doing that
meant they reached everyone with advert and not just people who watch TV.

Once my advert is completed it could be uploaded to YouTube just like the Change4Life adverts. One of the benefits of uploading it to YouTube would be that
its reaching more people but it wouldnt cost me anything because uploading is free on YouTube. At the same time I could also be running the video as an
advert on the site, then if someone clicked on the advert it would redirect them to the uploaded version of the advert where they can have discussions in the
comments and ask questions and eating healthily. Another benefit from having the advert on YouTube is the ability to make add revenue off the video. This
works by having YouTube run other adverts before your video starts, you then get a percentage of the money made from that advert. This would be another
way of getting the advert to pay for itself.

TV:

6
James Clayton

Change4Life aired three different advert in 2013 which were all shown on TV. The reason people choose to advertise on TV
is because of the massive audiences the adverts can reach which then means theres a bigger chance of people listening to
the advert. Another reason is the viewer is able to see and hear the advert which means you can pass more information on
in a television advert compared to a radio advert where they person can only get information through listening. The adverts
on the TV would have been shown in advert breaks between programmes and they could have also been used if
Change4Life was sponsoring a programme.

One of the places my advert will be shown is on the television as thats the most popular place for video advertisements due to the millions of people who
watch it and the ability to get lots of information across easily. I feel my advert will work well on the television because its around 30 seconds long which is
the average length of a commercial on the TV. The advert will also have a similar layout and story that the Change4Life adverts had, and due to the success
they had I feel mine will be successful as well because of the similarities. Once the advert has been shown for a few days a shorter version could then be
shown as that would be cheaper to run and would keep the viewer interested because the advert wont drag out.

Web:

In 2013 when the Change4Life adverts were released they were also found on the web on different sites. The main website where
they were used was YouTube because adverts run before certain videos as thats how the website makes money. The adverts
worked well on YouTube because they were only short (Around 30 seconds) which is the most common advert length found on
YouTube as its not boring for the viewer to sit through but is enough time to get information across.

My healthy eating advert will be used on the web but not in the same way as Change4Life, instead I will simply upload the advert to sites such as YouTube so
the advert is basically being shown to people for free as youre able to upload videos to these sites for free. If I wanted to edit the advert so it was usable for
banner or rectangle adverts I would need to remake the advert in flash with the new canvas size. This would take a long time as Id need to redesign the
background to work with the new resolution and then would have to make the whole animation again. Doing this would mean I could show the advert on a
wider range of websites but the extra work wouldnt be worth it.

Generation of ideas

Characters:

The characters in the Change4Life advert are very simple which is why they are so effective. The only details they have on
their face is their mouth which is all thats needed to show their expression and how theyre feeling. In this image here you
can instantly tell they are worried by the shape of their mouths. The benefit of having simple characters like these is that
they dont distract the viewer from the story of the animation and are also easier to work with due to them not having high
detail. These characters also look like real people which means people relate to them better making the advert more
successful at giving information across.

The characters I will have in my advert will be the piece of food, for example the unhealthy foods will be things like fizzy drinks
and burgers which have arms and legs. The healthy foods in my animation will be an apple and a piece of lettuce which go against
the unhealthy foods in a race. Ive chosen to go with characters like this because its easy for the kids to see what the unhealthy
foods and the healthy foods are, they can also relate to them as they would have eaten and drank these unhealthy foods at some
point in their life.

Backgrounds:

The backgrounds used on the Change4Life adverts are very simplistic and designed to look like rooms of a house. For example this
background was made to look like a dining room because the advert is about eating and a dining room is where you eat. The
other backgrounds in the advert are of different rooms of the house, theres one scene where they are in the living room and
then another scene where theyre in the kitchen. The reason these background were used Is that it shows that the characters are
in a house because thats where most people eat their food.

The background Ill be using on my advert wont change throughout the animation because its set outside. The background will be of the sky and some
distant hills because its set in a field, I may also add some trees for extra detail if the background looks to plain and empty. The reason Im having and outdoor
background is because the animation is going to take place on a sports field because they characters are going to be running.

Storylines:

The story of the advert is that the characters are sat eating unhealthy food when they get interrupted by the narrator who then shows
them how much fat and sugar is in the food theyre eating. The characters then get given a book showing them what food they should
eat for specific meals in the day. The last scene is them having a roast dinner and the narrator trying to steal some of the food. This is
a great storyline because its easy to follow and understand whats happening.

7
James Clayton

The storyline for my advert will be based outside on a running track where the healthy foods are racing against the un-healthy foods. It will start out with the
different foods getting warmed up at the start of the race and then talking to each other about whos going to win. The race then starts and the cup of Coca
Cola keeps spilling his drink whilst hes running and eventually falls over. Then the burger also falls over because his legs give way and the different layers of
the burger slide out onto the track. Then the healthier fruits overtake them and win.

Visualisation:

The visuals of the Change4Life advert are very pleasing to look at due to the soft colours they used. Everything in the
advert is colourful but doesnt stand out too much because the backgrounds are also very colourful. For example the
bright pink character wouldnt look good if the other characters were dark, but because they all balance each other out it
works. The characters in the Change4Life advert are very simple which is why they are so effective. The only details they
have on their face is their mouth which is all thats needed to show their expression and how theyre feeling. The benefit
of having simple characters like these is that they dont distract the viewer from the story of the animation and are also
easier to work with due to them not having high detail.

The visuals for my animation most likely wont look as god as those in the Change4Life adverts because Im using different software that isnt as advanced. I
can still try and make my animation look appealing though by using a set amount of colours which work well together. I can also try and add shadows if
needed to give objects a 3D look. The background on my animation will be created in Paint.Net so will look very realistic compared to if I was to make it on
Flash which has limited drawing tools. The characters will also be made on Paint.net but will not be fully constructed so I can animated them. Im making all
the graphics in Paint.Net because I have more experience with that programme and it means I can make good looking characters relatively easily.

Script:

The only talking in the Change4Life advert is the narrator talking to the characters. Heres the script from the advert:

Honestly you lot

What are you putting into your bodies?
Let me show you
Come on, hold tight
This is the amount of fat in that whole pizza
Yuck!
Characters gasp
Theres 17 cubes of sugar in that fizzy drink
Too many hidden nasties can create dangerous levels of fat in your body that could lead to heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes. Cancer.
Come on lets get food smart
Heres our free meal mixer, its packed with cheap and easy everyday ideas

The whole point of the script in the Change4Life advert is to make it interesting to listen to but also to give across valuable information, such as that theres 17
cubes of sugar in most fizzy drinks. This information is there to inform and also scare the listener into watching what they eat.

In my healthy eating advert I will have a similar type of script where its used to inform the viewer about the type of food they shouldnt eat on a regular basis
but also to describe whats happening in the advert. This will be the script for the animation:

Look boys and girls theres a race about to start!

Its a battle of healthy and unhealthy, I wonder who will win?
And theyre off!
Coca cola has taken an early need but looks to be struggling.
Sugar cube and orange are tied for second place at the moment!
Oh no coca cola has taken a tumble and is all over the track.
Sugar cube wont be able to get through that.
Heres orange taking the lead!
Orange has won the race!
Guess eating healthy does make you stronger.

Audio:

The audio that makes up the Change4Life animation consists of narration and sound effects. The narration makes up most of
the animation since its designed to give information across to the viewer. The sound effects are just there to accompany the
animation but also as they make it more interesting to watch because its not just an animation with no sound. Near the end
of the advert music begins to play to signal that the end of the advert is coming but also because next time you hear that
piece of music youll remember watching the advert, which will then make you think about eating healthy. The sound effects
in the animation are simple ones such as eating sounds, the placing of an object, characters making noises as they get carried
through the air.

8
James Clayton

For my animation I will have the same audio because my advert will contain narration, sound effects from object moving, and also sound effects from the
characters. I will be doing all of the narration myself but I will have to source the sound effects from free audio websites that allow you to use their sounds in
your work because I dont have the necessary equipment or time to record all my sound effects myself. The majority of the audio will consist of the narration
and the sound effects will just be used as background noise for the animation. Heres a few examples of sound effects Ill need:

Person out of breath

Running footsteps
Confetti going off
Ambient background noise

Working within technical limitations:

The adverts which were made for Change4Life were made by an animation company called Aardman so they are very well
done and use advanced techniques to get the best looking animation possible. The animations that were produced were all
done with Claymation but then some digital animation was also added. This makes for an interesting combination because
its difficult to see whats done with Claymation and whats done with computer animation. In this picture on the right the
characters and the sofa are made out of Plasticine but the items on the ground such as the fries and fizzy drink are all done
with computer animation. Having a mix of these two types of animation means that the animation can contain more
advanced features than if it was just Plasticine animation.

My advert will be made with a different animation technique so has different limitations than the Change4Life animation may have had. As mine will all be
done on the computer I will be able to do things such as make the characters glow which wouldnt be possible with Claymation, I can also add more detail to
the set and characters because everything wont be very tiny and fiddly as Ill have the ability to zoom in. One of the limitations of using Flash to make my
animation is that it can only be 2D since Flash doesnt support 3D animations. This isnt really a problem though because Ill still be able to make my idea work
in 2D.

Planning

Designs/Drawings:

Before I start to make my Flash animation I need to have an idea of what everything will look like, to do this I will produce some drawings of what my
characters and the different scenes will look like. The reason I need to create these designs before I go ahead with the animation idea is so I can first show
them to the client to make sure theyre happy with them, but also so I can follow them when Im creating the assets on the computer. The first designs I will
draw up are of my characters, these will be draw on storyboards and will be fully detailed with colours. Im creating the characters first so I can then reference
those drawings when I begin to draw out the different scenes of the animation on dope sheets. The dope sheets I will draw up contain a still image of what the
scene will look like (this image will be detailed and coloured), how many frames make up that scene, the camera movement if any, the camera position, and
any sounds for the scene. All of this information on the dope sheets is then used in the production of the animation.

Storyboards:

These are the storyboard drawings I made of the characters that will be in my animation. The reason I drew these characters up first is so I can have a rough
idea of what they will look like, but also so I can show them to the client to make sure that they approve of them before I go ahead and start making the
animation. Once they have been okayed by the client I will use the drawings again when Im making the characters on the computer as Ill need to reference
them to make sure the characters look like the designs. Here are all my storyboard drawings:

Dope sheets:

Just like with the storyboards I will be creating dope sheets that contain information about each scene in the animation. The dope sheets I will draw up
contain a still image of what the scene will look like (this image will be detailed and coloured), how many frames make up that scene, the camera movement if
any, the camera position, and any sounds for the scene. All of this information on the dope sheets is then used in the production of the animation, if I was to
try and put the animation together without these dope sheets then it may end up not matching my designs. Heres a list of all the dope sheets I drew up:

Consideration of movement:

As its an animation Im creating theres obviously going to be some sort of movement whether its in the characters or
assets on the set. When moving one of these I will have to make sure it follows a realistic path. For example if an item is
throw it should have a realistic trajectory and not one that looks like its in low gravity, this can be difficult to do and just
takes time to perfect. Other movements like the running of characters will also be difficult to do as Ill have to animate the
legs bending along with the movement of the arms. Thankfully theres lots of tutorial on how to animate a person or figure
running which I can just follow if I need to. If I have characters standing around I will make sure they are also animated and
not just stood still. I could add little swaying movements to them or even make them blink if I had the time. These little details are just to make the animation
look more professional and detailed.

Continuity:

As the animation is going to be for young children aged between 5-11 it needs to flow well so they can follow the story easily, to do this I will use one stage as
it wont confuse the kids by having a change of scenery. I will also not use any cuts in the animation because they too could make them loose the storyline,
doing this will also mean you can easily track where each character has gone which once again will help the flow of the animation. So I dont get confused
when putting together the animation and accidently put some scenes in the wrong order I will have my dope sheets on hand so I can constantly reference
them whilst producing the animation, that way I can keep everything on track and not make any silly mistakes.

FPS:

My animation will be produced at 24 frames per second as thats what the client requested and is also the most common frame rate when working with
animation because it looks as smooth as 30 fps but doesnt require as much work. The animation is supposed to be around 30 seconds long which means I
need to create 720 frames because 24x30=720. If the animation was made at 30 fps I would need a total of 900 frames to make it 30 seconds long. You can
see the big different in the amount of frames needed which is why 24 fps is the most popular.

Perspective/Point of view:

The perspective of the animation will be 3rd person. This is because the animation is 2D so it would be very difficult to make it work if it was supposed to be
shot in first person, also my idea wouldnt work very well in first person because you wouldnt be able to see whats happening with the other characters. The
camera angle on the characters and set wont move throughout the animation because it wont need to as everything is going to take place in a small area.
The angle of the camera will be looking down on the characters slightly so you can see more of whats happening in each scene instead of just looking
perfectly horizontal which would restrict what you can see.

Soundtrack:

For my animation I will have a wide range of different audio tracks making up the animation. This is because my animation will contain narration, sound
effects from object moving, and also sound effects from the characters. I will be doing all of the narration myself but I will have to source the sound effects
from free audio websites that allow you to use their sounds in your work because I dont have the necessary equipment or time to record all my sound effects
myself. The majority of the audio will consist of the narration and the sound effects will just be used as background noise for the animation. Heres a few
examples of sound effects Ill need:

Person out of breath

Running footsteps
Confetti going off
Ambient background noise
Gun firing for the start of the race
People cheering

ILP:

To keep me on track whilst Im completing the animation project I have been given a ILP by my client. This ILP
shows me what I should be doing on certain days so I can see if Im ahead, behind or on track. It will look similar to
this image here but will have different tasks in the columns. At the end of each session I have to write a few
sentences about what I completed and what I plan on doing next. This is so the next time I start back on the work I
know exactly what Ive already done and what I need to do next.

Conclusion:

Im going to be creating a 2D animation on Flash for the BBC that will be aimed at 5-11 year olds and be around 30 seconds long including the introduction and
ending credits, it needs to be about healthy eating so should include information related to that subject. The animation will be shot at 24 FPS so will require
around 720 frames to meet the requested 30 second time stamp. The animation will include lots of different audio tracks including narration and sound
effects. The narration will be the majority of the audio and the sound effects are just for background noise.

Throughout the proposal I made sure I was covering all

of the required headings off the brief, along with
making them relevant to the specification that the
client gave me in the meeting.

One of the requirements from the

meeting is that the animation I
would be creating is for 5-11 year
olds. I took this into account when
creating my proposal as thats the target audience I went for.
Another requirement that the client
had pointed out in the client meeting
was the animation had to have a story. I
knew this since I followed the brief and
the notes from the client meeting,
heres the storyline heading from my proposal.

Time management:
At the start of this assignment I had been given an ILP by the
client which I would use to keep on track during the individual
tasks. At the end of a session of working I would write down
in the session review what I had achieved that session, this
way I could tell if I had completed all of the required tasks
that session. If I had completed all of these tasks then I knew I was on track and would meet
the deadline for the assignment. The advantage of using an ILP (Individual learning plan)
such as this one to keep track of time is you can easily visualise how much you have done
and much you have left. I met all of the individual and final deadlines given to me by the
client which shows I was on track and following their instructions.
