Introduction
We were asked to design an affordable house for an empty site on 304
Slaughter Ave. Dallas, TX. The constraints were to design a house that would
not take more than 40% of the site. That being said, the house cannot have a
bigger surface area than 2500 square feet. Couple of guidelines for this
project were followed by the Habitat for Humanity guidelines that included
each house was to avoid the creeping affluence that affected many
designs of affordable houses.
Some requirements that needed to be on the house according to the New
Construction Guidelines of Habitat for Humanity was to have the right
building codes. The wall frame structure is a 4 inch of 2x4 wall stud,
inch of sheathing OSB, inch of rigid insulation layer, and another inch of
gypsum wall board.

Site Analysis
The site took place on 304 Slaughter Ave. Dallas TX. We went to see the site
in person and it was pretty messy. The site had trash in the back left corner
right next to a tree. There was a wooden fence on the left hand side of the
property, looking at it from the front of the property. There is also an
apartment complex to the right. It can probably block the sun in the morning
because the apartments
are on the east and that
is where the sun rises.
There is a high school
like across the street
and a middle school
around the area. The
site is 125ft on its
length and 50 ft. across
its width. As you can
see on the image that is
where the site is located
and the surrounding
area. Another thing
about the site it is that
the ground was very bumpy. There were some areas where the ground was
leveled and there were some areas that were not.
Floor Plan

The floor plan was designed with very specific constraints since the house
was designed for me. I wanted a simple house with a garage and a large
living space. The house has 1 bedroom with a small bathroom, it has another
bathroom for visitors. It is a 1494 square foot house that is 19 ft. tall at its
floor. The house has a garage that is 16 ft. by 15 ft. It has a living room that
is 16 ft. long by 10 ft. wide, a bathroom that is 6 ft. wide by 15 ft. There is a
gaming room which is just a couch and a TV, I thought I had more time to put
more stuff there but I guess I dont. Theres only one bedroom that is 14 ft.
by 15 ft. and has a small bathroom that is 7 ft. by 7 ft. The kitchen is big it
measures 20 ft. by 12 ft. A dining area that is 8 ft. by 12 ft. and an office that
has the same dimensions as the dining room.

Calculation Summary
The house has a water pressure pipe connected to a main pipe and the static
head is 166 ft. The head loss was 31.41ft. The Dynamic head is 134.59 ft.
and actual pressure of 58.28 psi. The concrete pad costs around an estimate
of $4688.44. And the Heat loss gain is 13740.

Conclusion
In conclusion I manage to design a house built for me but it can be used for
many other people. The house has very distinct constraints about where
each room is set up. Habitat for Humanity has certain constraints about how
the house supposed to be in the property. I managed to design a house using
those constraints. The house is not that high and not too wide. Here is the
house that I designed using Revit software.
