INTENT TO ENTER INTO A LEASE AGREEMENT
RIONDEL AND DISTRICT CURLING CLUB

Pursuant to section 286 of the Local Government Act, notice is hereby given that the Regional District
of Central Kootenay (RDCK) intends to consider entering into an agreement with the Riondel Curling
Club to lease the following areas: curling ice area; locker room; upstairs curling lounge and viewing
area; and plant room in the Riondel Curling Club, located at 461 Fowler Street, Riondel, B.C., legally
described as Lot 7, Block 2, Plan 5803, District lots 50,461 and 462.

The intent of the lease agreement is to permit the Riondel Curling Club to lease the Riondel Curling
Club facility for the purpose of curling club activities for a period of ten (10) years.

A copy of the proposed lease is available for viewing at the Riondel Commission of Management
office or at the office of the Regional District of Central Kootenay at 202 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, BC,
during regular office hours.

regional economic devel-

The Village of Kaslo is recruiting for a student labourer to assist our public

The first time Susan and I attended a buri-
al at the old Quaker Cemetery in Argenta,
BC we were quite moved. How rare and
special in this day and age to see a com-
munity fully engaged in this honourable
ritual on behalf of friends and neighbours.
Every heartfelt detail; from maintaining
the community cemetery, to the grave
digging, the handmade casket, and the
ceremony itself, was organized and con-
ducted solely by community members.
Not long after this experience, I had the
opportunity to start making caskets for
the Argenta Cemetery Association. The
simple and lightweight design is one that
has been passed down through several
decad

took a few years to break even and get
the vendor support we needed. Here we
are in year seven and going strong!

I (Tyler) was born and raised in Kaslo
but am returning after eleven years to
the Kootenays. Raed is Jordanian but
grew up in Saudi Arabia. He is new to
the Kootenays and enjoying it a lot!
We met in the middle east working for
a five star airline in Abu Dhabi. Both
of us were always into fitness and have
attended group classes and gyms all
over the world. We decided to move to
Canada to open a business.
We saw a need and wanted to be
involved in the Kaslo community and so
we started Body Project. Just now, we are
putting the finishing touches on our very
large space (4,000 sq ft) above Purcell

Thinking about selling
goods and services on the
sidewalk or a parking space?
Many local Kaslo businesses like to do this from time to time,
but it requires municipal permission, sometimes a fee or, at
minimum, a liability waiver signed by the business concerned.
Encroachments that violate municipal bylaws or present
unacceptable public hazards are not permitted and could
be subject to fines, seizure and other enforcement action if
warnings are not heeded. Sandwich board signs require a
special permit and must be placed in such a manner that they
do not obstruct pedestrian traffic.
A limited number of Temporary Licences of Occupation
are available to downtown businesses who wish significant
utilization of the sidewalk and parking spaces in front of their
premises. Proposals must conform to the associated policy
and go through a public process. A formal legal agreement
with fee schedule results for successful applicants.
Dont simply copy your neighbour and start building a patio,
place goods in the road allowance or park your business
vehicle permanently in a space compliant businesses are
paying for the privilege and have worked with the Village to
gain approval in advance.
If you are a temporary or mobile vendor, access to the sidewalk
and parking spaces is not permitted. If you hold a municipal
business licence and appropriate general liability insurance,
the Kemball Building courtyard and parking areas are available
to rent at weekends for special events at a modest fee, as are
some municipal parks. If renting from other property owners or
municipal lease holders, please ensure that you hold a Village
business licence their business licences do not cover you.
The Village supports its downtown businesses in their efforts
to generate increased sales and revenue during the peak
season. Chamber membership is also encouraged to boost
communication and collaboration between businesses on
topics like this.
