SPEECH CONTEXT
Intrapersonal It is a self-centered kind of communication made up of speakers ideas and
emotions
Interpersonal communication is the process by which people exchange information, feelings and meaning
through verbal and non-verbal messages
a. Dyad two persons mutually share information, ideas or arguments
b. Small Group refers to a group small enough in size, 3 to 12 participants in communication process.
Public involves a single speaker who are presenting uninterrupted and continuous discourse to a sizeable
number of other persons.

SPEECH STYLES
It refers to the manner a person acts in the midst of people in the society
Intimate language used by very close friends and lovers which is so private and requires significant amount
of shared history, knowledge and experiences.
Casual This is the language used by friends during their ordinary conversations
Consultative Formal registers are used. It is well known as the third level of language
Formal The standard for work, school and business matters and must be presented in complete sentences.
Frozen - This is known as fixed language

SPEECH ACTS
Locution This is the traditional sense of uttering sentences
Illocution These are utterances such as informing, ordering and warning
Perlocution - It tries to achieve understanding such as convincing, persuading or surprising

SPEECHES ACCORDING TO PURPOSE


Expository/Informative the purpose is to describe, clarify, explain or define an object, idea, concept or social
institution or process.
Persuasive It aims to affect the attitude or the behavior of the audience. It always starts with a purpose termed
as a proposition. It inspires, creates or intensifies ideals.
Entertainment it aims to put the audience in a relaxing mood or atmosphere.

SPEECHES ACCORDING TO DELIVERY


Manuscript It is when a speaker is prepared to his/her speech and actually reading the message in front of a
crowd.
Memorized This may result to forgetting and loss of more realistic expression of the ideas in the speech
Impromptu when a speaker is deprived of ample time to prepare for his speech
Extemporaneous - A speaker prepares an outline of the given topic and ready to expand of the details while
delivering the speech

SOURCING THE INFORMATION


Information may be gathered through the following:
Conversations can be done by interviewing people who have personal experiences on the topic
Investigations through observing procedures and practices of other people.
Readings libraries are main resources for information
Brainstorming asking for an expert about a subject matter
Mass media television, radio programs or internet are reliable sources of information.

PRINCIPLES OF SPEECH WRITING


a. Always start in choosing your topic
b. Analyzing the audience have to learn

PRINCIPLES OF SPEECH DELIVERY


1. The more reputable the speaker is, the more credibility there is between him and the audience
2. Modesty is an asset to a speaker
3. The speaker must be full of life
4. Have a direct eye contact with your audience to show interest in them.
5. Speaker is expected to wear self-confidence at all times
6. A speaker should always have a reason to give messages
7. There is always a fear of feedback from the audience during a speech delivery
8. The speaker should have a couple stock of appropriate information to avoid gaps during the delivery
9. Consider the theme of the occasion when deciding for a topic for a speech
10. A speech outline is the blueprint or framework of any speech
11. Write an introduction that will get the audiences interest
12. Practice your speech before some members of the family
13. A speaker should avoid distracting mannerisms like scratching the head and playing with the necklace
14. In an impromptu speech, do not apologize about lack of preparation
15. rapport should be established during an interview
