As we continue to celebrate the fifty days of Easter, todays gospel includes
Jesus promise that he goes to prepare a place for his followers in his GATHERING SONG: For the Beauty of the Earth (ELW 879)
Fathers house. Our baptism commissions us to share Jesus mission in the
world. As First Peter reminds us, we are a holy people, called to proclaim GREETING
the one who called us out of darkness into light. In words and deeds we
bear witness to the risen Christour way, our truth, our life. Alleluia! Christ is risen!

O God, for all our mothers in Spirit or by birth,

who bore your light unto us through hardship or in mirth,
we offer glad thanksgiving and fervent prayers we raise,
that, learning from their witness our lives may sing your praise. Amen.

Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
Give us grace to love one another, to follow in the way of his
commandments, and to share his risen life with all the world, for he lives

As the Gospel is announced, worshippers are invited to trace a cross upon

[Jesus said to the disciples:] 1Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in
God, believe also in me. 2In my Fathers house there are many dwelling
places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place
for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and
will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4And
you know the way to the place where I am going. 5Thomas said to him,
Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the
way? 6Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through me. 7If you know me, you will know
my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.
8Philip said to him, Lord, show us the Father, and we will be
satisfied. 9Jesus said to him, Have I been with you all this time, Philip,
and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, Show us the Father? 10Do you not believe that I am in
the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not
speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his

you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. 12Very truly, I

As they recite the creed, worshippers are invited to bow beginning with the
words born of the Virgin Mary, until the words he descended to the
dead.
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally
begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he
came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the
virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third
day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We
have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have
done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our
whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the
sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us,
and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways,

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for

Let us pray.
Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower
us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad
and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
DIALOGUE
Worshippers are invited to bow with the consecration of the Lords body
and blood, each time the words Do this for the remembrance of me, are
spoken.
You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God. You are most holy, and
great is the majesty of your glory. You so loved the world that you gave
your only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but
have eternal life.

We give you thanks for his coming into the world to fulfill for us your holy
will and to accomplish all things for our salvation. In the night in which he
was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and
gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and

PREFACE

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Remembering, therefore, his loving command, his life and death for us, his
glorious resurrection and ascension, and the promise of his coming again,
we give thanks to you, O Lord God Almighty. And we pray, send us your
Holy Spirit, so that we who share in Christs body and blood will glorify
you by serving others in love. Join our prayers with those of your saints of
every time and every place, and unite them with the ceaseless petitions of
our great high priest until he comes as victorious Lord of all.

Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and
honor is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.

Risen Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:

Matthias was the apostle added to the Twelve after Jesus' resurrection, as a
replacement for the dead Judas Iscariot. He had traveled among the
followers of Jesus throughout the Lord's ministry. Formerly commemorated
on February 24, Matthias's celebration is moved to May 14 in agreement
with most Western calendars.
Erik, King of Sweden, martyr, died 1160
Thursday, May 18, 2017
Erik is considered the patron saint of Sweden. As king of that nation, he
tried to bring peace in the region, and to spread Christianity in Scandinavia.
He was also known for his attempts to make fair laws and to protect those
who were poor or sick.
