This year the feast of Muslims Maulid Prophet Muhammad and

Christians Christmas fell almost simultaneously on December 24
and December 25.
For some youths in Cirebon this moment is used to help each other to help the
celebration of the two holidays run smoothly.

Sugianto, a member of a community organization called Pelita (Pemuda Lintas

Agama), said he and several other youth members helped celebrate the Prophet's
Mawlah at a university in Cirebon, though not Muslim.

"In helping with that we prepare everything, both conveyance chairs, soundsystem
(sound system), other equipment such as decoration, then in this case we also
share the task of parking," said Sugianto.
On the other hand, Muslim youth also help Christians prepare for Christmas
events.

"It's been two days to help, preparing for Christmas, it's a form of social activity
because Pelita's orientation is to keep the harmony of religious people, in the
social field, not the theology," said Haryono who also joined in Pelita.

Churches and mosques side by side

This year's Christmas also happened to fall on
Friday.
Therefore, Immanuel Church in Malang will celebrate Christmas Day at 08.00 -
10.30 WIB not to disturb the Friday prayers.
The church is close to a mosque, the Great Mosque of Jami who also holds the
Mawlid of the Prophet on Thursday (24/12) night, to coincide with Christmas Eve
Mass.

"Yesterday we coordinated, we both set the security, both of us set the parking lot,
our parking together with well," said Emmawati Baule, pastor and chairman of
GPIB Immanuel Malang.
According to KH Zainuddin A Muhith, chairman of Takmir Masjid Agung Jami
Malang, his mosque and Immanuel Church have always been mutually tolerant
and cooperative.

"For example, the church parties invite at one time on his birthday to work
devoted to the beauty of the city, firing roads, we provide energy, among others, it
shows our togetherness," said Zainuddin.

'It should be'

Actually attitudes and acts of mutual respect among religious people in Indonesia
are many more, but it is rarely heard.

This is according to Anick Hamim Tohari, a pluralist activist who once worked on
the Liberal Islam Network, caused by many things.

Some of them are easy to forget and ignore.

"Although it is a natural act and should be done in Indonesia, but in conditions

where intolerance is increasing sharply, this campaign (mutual respect) must be
constantly undertaken," Anick said.

Anick also appealed to all religious followers to support each other and prevent
the existence of cases of intolerance.

Religion is a principle of belief in God that must be possessed by every

human being because by religion human can know himself and his God, and with
religion, human can know his rights and obligations as a creature created by
God.As we know, In Indonesia many know various religion, but there are only
five religions recognized in Indonesia. Including Islam, Protestant, and
Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism.
But despite many types of religion in Indonesia, tolerance is maintained.
As happened in 2015, Muslims and Christians show tolerance at the feast. At that
time mosques and churches in Malang located side by side were holding religious
events. The feast of Muslims Maulid Prophet Muhammad and Christians
Christmas fell almost simultaneously on December 24 and December 25. For
some youths, this moment is used to help each other to help the celebration of the
two festivities run smoothly. They help each other and keep the harmony. At that
time, Christmas also happened to fall on Friday. Therefore, Immanuel Church in
Malang will celebrate Christmas Day at 8.00 - 10.30am not to disturb the Friday
prayers. The church is close to a mosque, the Great Mosque of Jami which also
holds the Mawlid of the Prophet on Thursday 7.00 pm, to coincide with Christmas
Eve Mass. The attitude of mutual respect is natural and must be done in Indonesia,
although intolerance continues to rise sharply, we should always be reminded to
maintain mutual respect and tolerance.
With such cases, we as social beings should be more consious of tolerance.
Actually, the act of mutual respect among religious people in Indonesia is still
much more, but some people are easy to forget and ignore.
