Should people be aware of what they post on their Facebook or any social media?
Students and future employees do not know that their Facebook account is being viewed by
employers before getting hired. In Guess Who Else Is Reading Those Facebook Entries?
Eddie R. Cole Jr, a former editor-in-chief at the Tennessee State University student newspaper,
reveals how Facebook, the biggest social media website, has now became very well known for
phone application. It is being used to check students and employees looking for job
opportunities, giving them less of an opportunity to get hired because of how they view them on
Facebook.
Facebook as for other social medias can help employers learn more about who they want
to hire, by lurking a word that many students use to identify stocking their profile. It can help
them by keeping aware of who their future employees will be by viewing their past and current
life status. What sucks about viewing peoples Facebook page or any other social media it
automatically gives the boss/manager the idea of accepting or denying. When hiring someone for
a job, discrimination isnt tolerated. By looking at someones Facebook, yes it can give the
employer basic information, but it cannot reveal who they really are. For example, a post from 3
months ago at a party does not determine that the person likes to party every weekend. This
reason being is why many big cooperations and organizations have interviews before hiring

because they are really aware of who specifically they wish to hire. It is better getting to know
the person when meeting them than assuming over a fun time at a party. Just any human being,
we all have lives to live, we all make mistakes and we like to have fun. Cooperations just want
to be precise, they want to gain confidence that the students confidence by seeing if they have
Facebook has become the biggest hit for many students, adults, and those wanting to
connect to their friends and family living far. Many people post about their daily life routines,
silly pictures, and their opinion. It has gone beyond track that employers only focus on what
people post on Facebook, according to Co-founder of Facebook, Chris Hughes, an employer can
access Facebook in a quick process. Hugh states, If students dont want potential alumnus
looking at their profiles, they can just change their privacy settings so that theyre not available
to alumni. Simple as that. (167) Job applicants go beyond privacy setting. For example, my
cousin who currently does not use Facebook anymore is being seen as the person he was before,
his past problems involving drugs and alcohol is haunting him when looking for a job. For those
who no longer use Facebook, take risk in being watched even if they deactivated their Facebook.
Its definitely true that past experiences can affect a persons opportunity in getting a job, but
what about those having fun, posting a picture of a one-day drinking celebration? Why does it
affect them? Everyone celebrates, so why be judged if everyone goes through the same moments
at least once.
Many people are being judged through their past experiences, and social life. Cole
supports his claim that Facebook has become a resource for many employers looking for the
perfect employee. Graduate students looking for job opportunities are being looked at through
their Facebook, even when its set on privacy setting. Facebook for many users is a place where

they get to unleash their personal information. I agree with Cole, that Facebook is an easy system
to target their future employees based on what they post. He supports his claim with evidence
The information given shows pathos and ethos revealing that it is credible. The claim is
supported by evidence and personal experience of students that has gone through a Facebook
problem. The tone used was showing that Cole knew that his claim of how Facebook is being
used is true because he was able to hear from co-founder of Facebook, Chris Hughes, and how
he feels about students having their private space. Facebook is becoming the biggest secret
database in stocking future employees. I would not want to be viewed as a person that likes to
party because I post pictures. As a teenager we know when to have fun and when to take things
serious. It has been 2years that I dont use Facebook anymore, but once a registered accountant
forever that what I post is trapped on the Facebook database. Everyone should be aware that
anything posted on social media is important information to anyone out in the world. Guess
Who Else Is Reading Those Facebook Entries is a good way to notify college students that
