Capaian pembelajaran (CP) yang diukur

Kode CP Capaian Pembelajaran Soal No
CP1 Mahasiswa mampu mengklasifikasikan berbagai jenis material logam dan non 1
logam

==================DO THE BEST, BE HONEST, AND GOOD LUCK!!================

1. Please explain briefly about:

a) Materials classification
b) Selection criteria to be considered for manufacturing spring
c) Stiffness (Define, how to calculate, the difference between stiff and brittle, and why
we need to evaluate this properties)

2. Material A only experience elastic deformation, it has the highest stiffness and fracture
strength as compare to others. In addition, it has the same strain fracture with material E but
much smaller than the material B. Material B has lower stiffness and ductility as compared
to material C and D, but it has the same strength with material D. Material C has lower
strength as compared to material B and D, the same ductility and stiffness with material D,
and the same yield strength with material B but much lower as compared to material D.
Material E has the lowest stiffness and fracture strength as compared to other
a) Plot stress strain curve of those materials
b) Which one is the hardest material? Explain why
c) Which one is the most toughness material? Explain why

3. A load of 85,000 N (19,100 lbf) is applied to a cylindrical specimen of a steel alloy

(displaying the stressstrain behavior shown in Figure 3.1) that has a cross-sectional diameter
of 15 mm (0.59 in.).
a) Will the specimen experience elastic and/or plastic deformation? Why?
b) If the original specimen length is 250 mm (10 in.), how much will it increase in
length when this load is applied?
c) Please estimate the hardness value (in HB) for this specimen.
4. Explain the difference between izod and charphy method in impact testing, make a sketch if
needed!
